Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2021
Saturday, July 3, 2021
Pray continually (Matt. 26:41).
What should we ask of Jehovah? We can ask Him to grant us more faith (Luke 17: 5; John 14: 1). We need it because Satan will put all of Jesus' followers to the test (Luke 22:31). Why will faith help us? Because, once we have done everything in our power, it will motivate us to leave the matter to Jehovah. Confidence that he can handle it much better than we can will keep our minds and hearts at peace (1 Pet. 5: 6, 7). Prayer helps us maintain inner peace no matter what happens to us. Let's look at the case of Robert, a faithful old man who is over 80 years old. He explains how he manages to keep the peace: “Throughout my life, the counsel in Philippians 4: 6, 7 has enabled me to cope with many difficulties. I have had financial problems, and there was a time when I stopped being an old man ”. And adds: “I pray to God as soon as I start to feel uneasy. I believe that the more frequent and intense my prayers are, the greater the peace I have ”. w19.04 9-10 pars. 5-7
Why was Jesus under enormous stress?
On the last day of his life as a human being, Jesus was under enormous stress. To begin with, he knew that it would be close to his cruel enemies to torture him to death. But there was something else that worried him. He wanted to please his Father because he loved him so much. And he knew that if he was faithful during these difficult times, he would help vindicate or defend God's name. Furthermore, he loved people and understood that our chances of living forever depended on him being faithful until death.
Despite all this great pressure, Jesus kept the peace. Shortly before, he had told his apostles: "My peace I give you" (John 14:27). He had “the peace of God,” that is, the calm that someone who enjoys a valuable relationship with Jehovah feels. That was the sense of calm that Jesus had in his mind and heart (Philippians 4: 6, 7).
What are we going to examine in this article?
None of us will have to endure the pressure that Jesus endured. But all his followers will go through difficulties (Matt. 16:24, 25; John 15:20). And I'm sure, like him, we will sometimes be under stress. How can we prevent anguish from dominating us and robbing us of peace? We are going to look at three things that Jesus did during his ministry on earth and how to imitate him when we go through difficulties.
