First Conversation (3 min.): Use ideas for discussion. Then offer a teaching kit publication (th lec. 6).
PUBLISHER: Good morning. My name is SofĂa and I am participating in a work that tries to give courage in these difficult times. Without a doubt, you are also a person who wants encouragement in the times we are going through, right?
HOUSEWIFE: Of course I do. My name is Maria nice.
PUBLISHER: Nice to meet you, Maria. Today we see in the world so many things that worry us such as diseases, unemployment, so much suffering that we see today. Have you thought about what all this is due to?
HOUSEWIFE: It's true. I recently heard at a church service where they tried to comfort us by telling us that all of this comes from God. As for example the floods that are heard today or the forest fires in other countries. They mentioned that all this must come as punishment from God to those places and people where people act very badly.
PUBLISHER: Yes, Maria, I've also heard that way of thinking a lot. And briefly I want to share with you a biblical verse that helps us and my understanding if these are punishments from God or not. If you allow me I could read this part of the Bible called the letter of James chapter 1 and verse 13.
HOUSEWIFE: Don't let anyone say during a test: "God is testing me." Because, with bad things, no one can test God and he does not test anyone.
PUBLISHER: From what you hear here, can we say that the bad things that happen today are a test or punishment from God?
HOUSEWIFE: Well, from what you read it says that God does not test anyone with bad things. But, if so, why do bad things happen?
PUBLISHER: Maria, that is a very good question, it is clear that God does not prevent bad things from happening. But even though he allows them, he never makes these things happen. I am pleased to know that you have very good questions and I would like to help you if possible to answer them as well as they helped me. Is it okay for you to leave a pending question for the next time, for example because we suffer?
HOUSEWIFE: Yes, I like to ask a lot.
PUBLISHER: It will be my pleasure to help you. Is it okay Maria if tomorrow night I give you a short call and we answer this too.
HOUSEWIFE: If that's okay with me, I'll be waiting for your call.
