Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2021
Friday, August 13, 2021
I am the least of the apostles, and I am not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the congregation of God (1 Cor. 15: 9).
People who seem confident or straightforward are not necessarily proud (John 1:46, 47). Still, no matter what personality we may have, we should all strive to be humble of heart. Let's look at the example of the Apostle Paul. Jehovah used it to found congregations in one place after another. Perhaps no other apostle of Jesus Christ did as much as he did in ministry. Despite all this, Pablo did not consider himself superior to his brothers. He rightly pointed out that if he was a good friend of Jehovah, it was not because he was special or because he had achieved great things, but only because God had shown him undeserved kindness. --1 Cor. 15:10. He certainly gave an excellent lesson in humility when he wrote to the Corinthians, especially considering that some of them were critical of him (2 Cor. 10:10). w19.09 2, 3 paras. 5, 6
How does 1 Peter 5: 6 help us to see that humility is pleasing to Jehovah?
The most important reason for being humble is that it pleases Jehovah, as the Apostle Peter made clear (read 1 Peter 5: 6). In relation to these words, the book “Come, be my follower” says: “Pride is an extremely destructive poison. This defect renders even the most capable person useless to God. Humility, on the other hand, makes even the most insignificant person a useful instrument for Jehovah. " And he adds that our God “will gladly reward us if we also manifest that quality.” * Surely we agree that there is nothing better than making Jehovah's heart glad. --Prov. 23:15.
Why do people like to be with the humble?
In addition to pleasing Jehovah, being humble does us a lot of good. Humility draws people to us. To understand why this happens, let's think about what kinds of people we like to be with (Matt. 7:12). Isn't it true that we don't like the company of those who always want to get away with it and don't accept suggestions from anyone? Instead, we feel comfortable when we are with brothers who demonstrate empathy, brotherly affection, tender compassion, and humility (1 Pet. 3: 8). Well, if this is how we feel, it is logical to think that others will only feel comfortable with us if we are humble.
Why does humility help us to face the difficulties of life?
Humility also helps us face the difficulties of life. It is normal for there to be things that seem unfair or wrong to us. In fact, wise King Solomon acknowledged: "I have seen servants on horseback, but princes walking on earth just like servants" (Eccl. 10: 7). Talented people are not always recognized, and those with less ability are sometimes more honored. But Solomon understood that the prudent thing to do is to assume reality instead of obsessing over negative situations (Eccl. 6: 9). If we are humble, it will be easier for us to accept life as it is, not as we think it should be.
