I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves (Matt. 10:16).
When we begin to preach and identify ourselves as Jehovah's Witnesses, “storms” may come, such as opposition from our families, ridicule from our friends, and people's rejection of our message. What will help you to be brave? First, be assured that Jesus continues to direct this work from heaven (John 16:33; Rev. 14: 14-16). Then strengthen your faith that Jehovah will keep his promise to care for you. —Matt. 6: 32-34. The stronger your faith, the more courageous you will be. You showed great faith when you told your friends and family that you had started studying the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses and attending their meetings. And you have certainly made important changes in the way you live and act to uphold Jehovah's righteous standards. In this way he also showed that he has faith and courage.By continuing to strive to be courageous, you can trust that Jehovah will be with you wherever you go. --Jos. 1: 7-9. w20.09 4-5 pars. 11, 12
What does it mean to be disciplined, and why is it important to Christians?
Being disciplined means having the ability to force ourselves to do what we must. A good fisherman must be disciplined to get up early, to stay to finish his job, and to continue fishing even in bad weather. Christians must also be disciplined if we want to endure until we finish our work (Matt. 10:22).
What will help us to be disciplined?
Human beings are not disciplined by nature. Rather, we tend to follow the law of least effort. To be disciplined you need self-control. So if we want to be able to do the things that we find difficult to do, we need help. And Jehovah gives us that help through his holy spirit. --Gal. 5:22, 23.
In 1 Corinthians 9: 25-27, what did Paul say he had to do to be disciplined?
The apostle Paul was a disciplined person, but he admitted that he had to “hit” his body to do the right thing (read 1 Corinthians 9: 25-27). He commanded Christians to be disciplined and to "do everything in a dignified and orderly manner" (1 Cor. 14:40). This is what is needed to maintain a good program of spiritual activities that includes regular participation in this symbolic fishing (Acts 2:46).
