“Disobeying God's Laws Gets You In Trouble” (10 min.)
On a certain occasion, a psalmist probably prince of Judah and future king expressed a sentiment that today is not very common in the world, exclaiming to God: «How I love your law!
His words were not the result of a simple emotional impulse, but an expression of his love for the will of God ... Jesus Christ, he had similar feelings, he showed it in many ways. And we? Do we delight in doing the divine will? Are we convinced that Jehovah's standards are helpful and beneficial?
That should be a fundamental part of our worship, unfortunately sometimes we neglect and fail, the Bible records cases of servants of God who were neglected and recorded as warning examples.
Such is the case of a man named Micah not the prophet, who by his disobedience showed that "Disobeying God's laws gets us into trouble."
LET'S READ: Judges 17: 1,2.
Now there happened to be a man from the mountainous region of Ephraim whose name was Micah. 2 In time he said to his mother: “The eleven hundred pieces of silver that were taken from you and about which you pronounced a curse and also spoke it in my ears. Look, the silver is with me. I was the one who took it ”. At this, his mother said: "Blessed be my son of Jehovah."
They noticed that Micah, committed a serious disobedience to the law, "Do not steal" he stole from his mother, and not only that, when he confessed it to his mother, she with the desire to excuse him before Jehovah, ordered to make an image for worship and He put him in the house of Micah who had a sanctuary, he again violated the law in relation to idolatry and did not respect the system that Jehovah had established to worship him.
LET'S READ: Judges 17: 4,5,12.
4 So he returned the silver to his mother, and his mother took two hundred pieces of silver and gave them to the silversmith. And he began to make a carved image and a molten statue; and he came to be in the house of Micah. 5 As for the man Micah, he had a house of gods, and he proceeded to make an ephod and teraphim and fill the hand of one of his sons with power, to serve as a priest. 12 In addition, Micah filled the Levite's hand with power, so that the young man would serve as his priest and continue in the house of Micah.
By overlooking the tabernacle and the priesthood of Jehovah. This emboldened him to the point of hiring a young Levite as his priest. Feeling satisfied by it, albeit wrongly. For the young man was not of Aaron's lineage, so he did not even meet the requirements to be a priest, which only increased Micah's error.
What was the result of being disobedient to Jehovah's laws? Well, Micah got into trouble and in the end he was left alone, with nothing. The Danites took everything from him and threatened to harm him if he continued to demand their attitude.
LET'S READ: Judges 18: 24,26.
So he said: “My gods that I made, you have taken them, the priest too, and you are leaving, and what do I have left? How, then, can you tell me: What's the matter with you? 25 At this, the sons of Dan said to him: “Do not let your voice be heard near us, for fear that bitter souls will attack you, and you will have to pay with the loss of your own soul and soul. from your house". 26 And the sons of Dan kept going on their way; and Micah came to see that they were stronger than him, so he turned around and went home.
What lesson does this biblical account leave us? As it serves as a warning to never overlook our precious relationship with our God, Jehovah, we do not want the same thing to happen to us that Micah did, and as is well illustrated in the photograph in our activity guide.
There we see a family that has evidently disobeyed Jehovah and the results are obvious, mired in vices and alone, and it seems that she laments what they have lost by being disobedient to divine standards.
So before you overlook obedience, ask yourself, "What good things have I had in my life by obeying Jehovah?"
And the answer will always be, many, many good things we experience by being obedient.
LET'S READ: Isaiah 48: 17,18.
This is what Jehovah, your repurchaser, the Holy One of Israel says: “I, Jehovah, am your God, the one who teaches you for your own good, the one who guides you in the way you should walk. 18 If only you would heed my commandments! Then your peace would become like a river, and your justice like the waves of the sea.
It is Jehovah's fervent desire that his people heed his commandments and thus avoid calamity and enjoy life… And do you know why?
Well, because divine law comes from those who know us best. Since Jehovah is our Creator, it stands to reason that he knows exactly what human beings are like.
Furthermore, divine law comes from the one who loves us. God is very concerned about our lasting well-being. Didn't he say to his son, with great sacrifice to save us from sin and death? Has He not promised that He will not let us be tempted beyond what we can bear? Doesn't the Bible assure us that it cares about us?
It is very reassuring to know that we can trust Jehovah's standards, that they will never change… Therefore, fully keeping the laws that Jehovah has provided to guide our lives is wise course and brings happiness… And even though we are imperfect and make mistakes If we pursue justice, God shows his love for us in ways that will result in us gaining life and receiving blessings.
