The Devil has come down to you full of fury, knowing that his time is short (Rev. 12:12).
If our faith is strong, nothing Satan or those influenced by him can do will destabilize us (2 John 8:9). We know the world is going to hate us (1 John 3:13). John reminds us that “the whole world is under the power of the Evil One” (1 John 5:19). The end of this system is getting closer, so Satan is getting more and more furious. He not only attacks us by subtle means, such as immorality and apostate lies, but he also uses force. He knows that his time is short, so he tries more and more to stop the preaching or destroy our faith. He does not surprise us, then, that in some countries he restricts or even prohibits our work. Still, our brothers in those places continue to hold on. They show that no matter what the Devil does to us, we can stay true. w20.07 24 paras. 12, 13
What obstacle do young Christians face?
All Christians must be careful not to be deceived by human ideas (1 John 2:26). Who else should beware of this trap are young Christians. Alexia,* a 25-year-old sister from France, says: “When I was in school, I studied evolution and other human philosophies. These ideas made me doubt the truth. Sometimes they seemed interesting to me. But I thought that I could not just listen to what they taught me in class without giving Jehovah a chance to speak.” Alexia studied the book Life...how did she introduce herself here? By evolution, or by creation? In a matter of weeks, her doubts had disappeared. She recalls: “I convinced myself that the Bible is true. And I realized that respecting their rules would make me happy and give me peace.”
What temptation must we fight against, and why?
All Christians, whether young or old, must fight against the temptation to lead a double life. John referred to this when he pointed out that we cannot walk in the truth and at the same time live an immoral life (1 John 1:6). If we want to have God's approval now and in the future, we must behave as if the whole world sees what we do. Actually, there are no secret sins, for Jehovah sees everything (Heb. 4:13).
What should we reject?
We must also reject the world's attitude toward sin. The apostle John wrote, “If we say, 'We have no sin,' we are deceiving ourselves” (1 John 1:8). In John's day, apostates held that a person could knowingly sin and still be a friend of God. Today many think the same. They claim to believe in God, but they do not accept what he says about sin, especially in matters of sex. What Jehovah calls sin, people call personal preference or alternative lifestyle.
