Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2022
Saturday March 12, 2022
In this way everyone will know that you are my disciples: if you have love for one another (John 13:35).
We must all show the love that distinguishes true Christians. But we also need “accurate knowledge and full discernment” (Phil. 1:9). Otherwise, we might be influenced by “winds of all sorts of teachings” and “men who resort to snares and deceive,” such as apostates (Eph. 4:14). In the first century, when many disciples abandoned Jesus, the apostle Peter confidently said that Jesus had “the words of eternal life” (John 6:67, 68). Although Peter did not understand all the details of those words at the time, he remained loyal because he had discerned the truth about Christ. If we, too, become even more convinced that the Bible teaches the truth, our faith will stand strong in the face of trials and we will help others to have strong faith (2 John 1:2). w20.07 8 para. two; 13 para. 18
In addition to knowing the truth, what should we be able to do?
Once we are clear about these fundamental truths about Jehovah, the Bible, and God's people, we should be able to use the Scriptures to demonstrate them to others. Why? Because Christians have a responsibility to teach the truths we learn to those who will listen (1 Tim. 4:16).* And, when we try to convince others that the Bible teaches the truth, our own faith is strengthened.
What example did Paul set for us in teaching others?
When the apostle Paul taught others, he tried to “convince them to accept Jesus using the Law of Moses and the Prophets” (Acts 28:23). How can we follow his example in teaching someone the truth of the Bible? Let us not limit ourselves to repeating facts from memory. We must help him to reason about what he learns, for he will draw closer to Jehovah. We don't want him to accept the truth because he admires us, but because he has convinced himself that what he has learned about our loving God is true.
