It is certainly exciting to start teaching the Bible to someone, to consider them as our student, however, when discussing the information with them we may have to remember to be patient with them, remember that it may be the first time they hear the teachings Biblical beliefs that we know so well, and many are very attached to their beliefs and may see them as binding them to their family, culture, and community.
How can we help them and at the same time show that we are patient with them? Before we ask someone to give up their old beliefs, we may need to help them appreciate the teachings of the Bible, which are new to them, for example, What do you do when you have to replace an old bridge that is in poor condition? ? Usually, while people are still using the old bridge, a new one is built. When this is finished, the old one is knocked down so we must understand that we need patience in this process as Romans 12:2 says.
We must also be patient when we notice that our students find it difficult to understand or accept biblical truths the first time they hear them and for this we must have empathy, empathy will motivate us to help them reason with the Bible for as long as they need . For example, consider the biblical promise to live forever in a Paradise on Earth. Many know nothing or almost nothing about it. Some believe that death is the end of everything. And others think that all good people go to heaven. How can we help them accept what the Bible teaches?
One brother explained how he patiently helped his students in this case: First, read Genesis 1:28 and ask where and how God wanted human beings to live. Most people answer that they are on Earth and happy. The brother then reads Isaiah 55:11 and asks if God's purpose has changed. People often say no. Finally, he reads Psalm 37:10, 11 and asks: “According to the Bible, how will human beings live in the future?” With this reasoning, he has made several people understand that God still wants good people to live forever in a Paradise on Earth.
