“Wait Patiently for Jehovah to Act” (10 min.)
Have you ever traveled with children inside a car? That's a bit complicated. He has touched those children who after having traveled a journey of two, three or more hours, the children begin to despair and begin to say this phrase "we are here". And when we say no, there are still two or three hours to go. Soon after again "and we are here" and they continue and "we are here" and "we are here" and "we are here". It has happened to those kinds of children.
They despair a little, but it is the feeling that the journey is becoming endless and they want to get there. He knows that we are sometimes just like children, we despair, because Jehovah has offered so many wonderful things and we want it to be fulfilled now. Many of us from a very young age were taught that the end was near. That these were the last days and that our goal was to continue to see clearly that we were about to enter the New World.
Decades have passed and we are still waiting for it. And it is not true that in moments we could say and when did we arrive? That is why in this section of Bible Treasures it has the title: “Wait patiently for the Lord to act.” And it is that, to be honest, there are moments in our lives that it seems that we no longer give more. For example, because of a disease we have. The years that have passed over us, relatives who are no longer with us and so many things that really afflict us and we think about when we arrive. When will what Jehovah has said come true?
Well, having patience is something that we could say is for few. However, all of us, if we make the effort, can manage to maintain that patience. Let's look at David's case. This servant of God had already been anointed from a young age to be king. However, he still wasn't. And there was someone, King Saul, who was looking for him to kill. The situation was not so easy. They were hidden in the caves, together with the other servants of David, those who accompanied them.
And yet these people saw a golden opportunity. King Saul, the one who wanted to kill David, found himself in the same place as David and his men. Let's see the reaction of how these men who accompanied David wanted to end things once and for all.
LET'S READ: 1 Samuel 24:3,5.
3 Then Saul came to the stone sheep pens that were by the roadside. There was a cave there, and he went into it to relieve himself. And it turns out that David and his men were sitting at the bottom of the cave. 4 David's men said to him: “This is the day that Jehovah is saying to you, 'Look, here I am delivering your enemy into your hands. You can do with it what you see fit.'” So David got up and quietly cut off the hem of Saul's sleeveless robe. 5 But then David felt his heart condemn him for having cut off the hem of Saul's sleeveless robe.
Impressive. He had the opportunity of his life there, to finish off his enemy and he would immediately be crowned king. And of course, as his men introduced him, it was fantastic. «They told him Jehovah is giving it to you. Get it over with." Easily today we could have certain moments in which we can make decisions from one moment to another and think that our life is resolved. For example, today the economic situation in many countries is not easy at all.
However, there is a golden opportunity before us where we can, with little or no effort, obtain what is necessary and more than enough to support our families. But to do so we would have to engage in questionable or illegal activities in an attempt to earn money. What will we do? Wait patiently for Jehovah to act. As King David had it right there at hand. However, why did he stop him?
LET'S READ: 1 Samuel 24:6,7.
6 He told his men: “I cannot do this to my lord, for he is Jehovah's anointed. Knowing how Jehovah sees things, it would never occur to me to lay hands on Jehovah's anointed.” 7 With these words, David stopped his men and did not let them attack Saul. Saul, on his side, left the cave and went on his way.
Sometimes we behave like children, we get desperate and want to get to the place that Jehovah has offered us in that new world to solve all problems. But for how long? We want to have the same attitude as Jehovah. We want to be patient, to know that there is a certain moment for the situation to reach the point that has been offered to us so much.
And the fact is that thinking a little about the case of desperate children, how do we calm them down? Well it comes from the ingenuity of the parents or some other adult who is going on the same trip. Offer him something in exchange for him to calm down, for that moment to forget about the goal that makes him so desperate. They can give him some candy, some toy, something that will entertain him even that.
Nowadays it is also something similar. One becomes so desperate that from one moment to another situations arise that make us change our point of view and begin to think in a different way, such as Jehovah entertaining us by improving our activity in the ministry, a meeting, a speech, something that reassures us for the moment and then continue with our goal forward.
We must have the same point of view as David, trust that Jehovah will fix things, trust that we will get where Jehovah has offered us.
LET'S READ: 1 Samuel 24:12,15.
12 Let the LORD judge between you and me. May it be Jehovah who avenges me on you. But I, I'm not going to lay hands on you. 15 Let Jehovah be the judge and judge between you and me. He will take notice of this matter and defend me. He will vindicate me and deliver me from your hands.”
These words were spoken by David to King Saul. David made it clear that he was about to commit a crime with him, to finish him off once and for all. But David's words indicate that he waited patiently for Jehovah to act.
As we wait for that new world to come, the fulfillment of Jehovah's promises, we will develop some other qualities needed for when we are in the new world. We will have more endurance, we will have total trust in Jehovah. We will see the fulfillment of so many biblical prophecies that confirm that we are doing the right thing.
Let's be like children. We may despair, but why not entertain ourselves in more spiritual activity, in being able to concentrate on improving our biblical knowledge, on taking advantage of circumstances and giving God reasons to reward us.
Let's be patient. We are nearing the end of this journey, and we can truly have absolute confidence that Jehovah will provide us with the perfect solution very soon.
