Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2022

The prudent see danger and hide (Prov. 22:3).

We must know how to identify situations that could harm us and then avoid danger (Heb. 5:14). For example, we must choose the entertainment well. TV shows and movies often contain immoral content. We Christians reject this kind of entertainment because it could weaken our love for Jehovah little by little. We know that God hates immorality and that people who lead immoral lives harm themselves and others (Eph. 5:5, 6). We must also understand that the false information spread by apostates is dangerous, since with it they try to sow doubts about our brothers and about Jehovah's organization (1 Tim. 4:1, 7; 2 Tim. 2:16). These lies could weaken our faith. Let's not be fooled by them, for they come from “men of corrupt minds who do not have the truth” and want to provoke disputes and controversies (1 Tim. 6:4, 5). They want us to believe their deceptions and mistrust our brothers. w20.09 29 paras. 13, 15

According to 1 Timothy 1:18, 19, to what did Paul compare Timothy?

(Read 1 Timothy 1:18, 19). Paul compared Timothy to a soldier and commanded him to "keep fighting the noble battle." But this battle was not literal, but spiritual. In what sense are we Christians like soldiers in a war? What qualities should we as soldiers of Christ cultivate? Paul's comparison teaches us five things we must do to get a good grasp on the truth. Let's see what they are.

What is devotion to God, and why is it so necessary?

Let us cultivate devotion to God. A good soldier is loyal. He fights with all his might to protect someone he loves or something he values. Paul encouraged Timothy to cultivate devotion to God, that is, a feeling of love and loyalty toward him (1 Tim. 4:7). The deeper these feelings are, the stronger our desire to get a firm grip on the truth (1 Tim. 4:8-10; 6:6).
