Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2022
Thursday June 2, 2022
I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth (Matt. 28:18).
We must be friends with Jesus in order to have a good relationship with Jehovah. Why do we say this? Let's look at two reasons. First, Jesus told his disciples: “The Father himself loves you, because you loved me” (John 16:27). And he also said, “No one can come to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Wanting to be a friend of Jehovah without being a good friend of Jesus is like wanting to enter a building without going through the door. Jesus used a similar example when he said it was "the gate for the sheep" (John 10:7). The second reason is that Jesus perfectly reflected the qualities of his Father. He told his disciples, “He who has seen me has seen the Father also” (John 14:9). So one of the main ways to know Jehovah is by knowing Jesus. The more we learn from him, the more we will love him. And, the closer we get to Jesus, the more we will love his Father. w20.04 21, 22 paras. 5, 6
What is the third step in becoming friends with Jesus, and how do we take it?
Third, let us support the brothers of Christ. Jesus considers that what we do for his anointed brothers is as if we did it for him (Matt. 25: 34-40). The main way to support them is by participating fully in the work that he entrusted to his followers: preaching the Kingdom and making disciples (Matt. 28:19, 20; Acts 10:42). The help of the “other sheep” is necessary for the brothers of Christ to fulfill the worldwide preaching campaign that takes place today (John 10:16). If we are of the other sheep, every time we participate in this work we show that we love the anointed ones and also Jesus.
How can we put Jesus' advice in Luke 16:9 into practice?
We also make friends with Jehovah and Jesus by using our money to support the work they lead (read Luke 16:9). For example, we can donate funds to the worldwide work to support the preaching work in isolated areas, the construction and maintenance of our theocratic facilities, and relief efforts. We can also make donations in our congregation and help the brothers who we know are in need (Prov. 19:17). In these ways we support the brothers of Christ.
According to Ephesians 4:15, 16, what is the fourth step in being friends with Jesus?
Fourth, let us support the decisions of the Christian congregation. Our friendship with Jesus, the head of the congregation, is strengthened when we collaborate with the brothers who are appointed to lovingly care for us (read Ephesians 4:15, 16). For example, the organization is making sure that we get the most out of Kingdom Halls. To that end, some congregations have been merged and some territories have been changed. As a result, many resources dedicated to God have been saved. On the other hand, due to these changes, some publishers have had to adapt to the new circumstances. Perhaps these faithful brothers have met for years in the same congregation and feel very attached to the brothers. But now they have been asked to serve in another congregation.
