The women who proclaim the good news are a great army (Ps. 68:11).
The sisters deserve our thanks for all that they do in their service to Jehovah. Among other things, they participate in the construction and maintenance of buildings, support groups in other languages, and volunteer at Bethel. They also participate in relief efforts and translation of publications, and are pioneers and missionaries. On the other hand, there are married sisters who help their husbands to take care of great responsibilities in the congregation and in the organization. Were it not for their support, these men, who are "like gifts," would not be able to do their work so fully (Eph. 4:8). Good elders know that the sisters are “a great army” willing to work and that many of them are among the best preachers of the good news. Also, the elders are aware that faithful and mature sisters can greatly help younger sisters with their problems (Titus 2:3-5). It is clear that our sisters deserve all our gratitude and affection. w20.09 23 paras. 13, 14
Give an example of when a sister may need our defense.
Do we defend our spiritual sisters when they need it? Suppose several brothers notice that a Christian woman with a non-Witness husband is often late for meetings and leaves as soon as they are over. Also, she hardly ever takes her children with her. So they start criticizing her and wondering why she doesn't get tougher with her husband. But the reality is that she is doing all she can. She doesn't have complete control over her schedule and she doesn't have the final say when it comes to making decisions about her children. What could we do? If we praise her for what she is doing and tell others about it, we may put a stop to the criticism.
In what other ways can we help our sisters?
Another way to show our sisters how much we care about them is by offering practical help (1 John 3:18). Annette, the sister who took care of her sick mother, recounts: “Some friends would come over from time to time to lend a hand so I could do other things or bring something to eat. It made me feel like I was part of the congregation and that they loved me.” For Jordan, her brother helped her by giving her advice on how to maintain her vehicle. She says, "It's nice to know that the brothers are concerned about my safety."
