"Do you learn from your mistakes?" (10 min.)
Have you ever hit your hand or your fingers very hard, trying to drive a nail into a surface, be it wood or cement? It does hurt, doesn't it? I would do it again?. What precautions would you take next time? He will certainly be very careful. That's what we're going to talk about in this section of Bible Treasures: “Do you learn from your mistakes”?
And as an example we will use Adonijah, one of the sons of King David. This was the fourth son of this king. However, Amnon, Absalom and probably Kileah had already died. So he would be the oldest remaining of all his children. David was already very old. It had been said that Solomon would become the next king, but he was young.
Adonías could feel qualified to do it in the line of succession, and that led him to start conspiring against his father. Just like Absalom had done before.
LET'S READ: 1 Kings 1:5.
5 Meanwhile, Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, “I will be king!” A chariot was ordered and horsemen and 50 men were procured to run ahead of him.
Perhaps you will remember that in previous weeks we saw that Absalom had also done exactly the same thing. It was a custom to hire men to run ahead of the carriages, calling out who was coming to attract attention. After this, he held a meeting with his potential supporters until he reached David's ears. And he immediately ordered Solomon to be anointed so that it could be determined who was going to be king.
When Adonijah and those who were in that meeting found out that Solomon had become king, they quickly each looked for their house. And what did Adonijah do?
LET'S READ: 1 Kings 1:52,53.
52 Hearing this, Solomon said: “If he behaves in a worthy manner, not a hair will be spared from him. But, if he does something bad, he will have to die.”53 So Solomon had him taken down from the altar. So Adonijah went and bowed down to King Solomon, and Solomon said to him, “Go home.”
That was like the first blow to the finger. I mean, don't do it again. But it is said that an error repeated more than once is a decision. And that is what Adonijah did again after being forgiven.

15 He continued: “You know very well that the kingship was to be mine, and all of Israel expected me to be the king. But the kingship slipped out of my hands and became my brother's, because Jehovah wanted it to be his. Abisag the Shunammite.” 22 But King Solomon answered his mother, “Why do you ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? You just need to ask for the kingship for him too, because he is my older brother and has the support of Abiathar the priest and Joab son of Zerujah.”23 With that, King Solomon swore by Jehovah: “May God punish me severely if, for Having asked for this, Adonijah does not pay with his own life.
Adonijah talks to Bath-Sheba, Solomon's mother, and tells her clearly that the kingdom slipped from his hands, that he should have been the king. To the king's own mother he was telling that. What's going on here?.
This was sheer cheek, because Abisag was King David's nurse. Therefore, she was considered the king's concubine, and Solomon had to protect that. By requesting Abishag as his wife, he was requesting his right to the throne, that is, he kept insisting on the same mistake for which he was forgiven. Solomon had to act and had him killed. He didn't learn from his mistakes.
