These two kings will sit at the same table telling lies to each other (Dan. 11:27).

Initially, the titles “king of the north” and “king of the south” were given to rulers who dominated areas to the north and south of the territory of literal Israel (Dan. 10:14). Until Pentecost of the year 33, the people of God were the nation of Israel. But from then on, Jehovah made it clear that his people would be made up of faithful disciples of Jesus. Therefore, much of the prophecy in Daniel chapter 11 has to do not with literal Israel, but with the followers of Christ (Acts 2:1-4; Rom. 9:6-8; Gal. 6: 15, 16). Also, the identities of the King of the North and the King of the South have changed over time. But these rulers have always had three points in common. First, they have greatly influenced Jehovah's people. Second, by the way they treat their people they have shown that they hate the true God. And, third, both kings have engaged in a fight against each other. w20.05 3 paras. 3. 4

How was Daniel 11:25b, 26 fulfilled?

Daniel then goes on to point out what would happen to the German Empire and its large army. He indicates that the king of the north would not stand. Why not? The prophecy says: “They will hatch evil plans against him. And those who eat the delicacies of him will cause him to fall” (Dan. 11:25b, 26a). In Daniel's day, among those who ate “the king's delicacies” were the royal officials who were in his service (Dan. 1:5). And to whom does the prophecy refer? To high-ranking officials of the German Empire—such as the emperor's generals and military advisers—who eventually helped overthrow the monarchy.* The prophecy not only foretold the fall of the empire, but also revealed the outcome of its war against the king of the south Speaking of the king of the north, he declares, “His army will be laid waste and many will fall dead” (Dan. 11:26b). Just as predicted, the German army was devastated in World War I, and many were killed. That war was the deadliest in history up to that time.

As predicted in Daniel 11:27-30, what did the king of the north and the king of the south do?

To describe what the king of the north and the king of the south would do before World War I, Daniel 11:27, 28 says: “They will sit at the same table telling each other lies.” He also points out that the king of the north would accumulate "a great amount of riches." Once again, that is what happened. Germany and Great Britain told each other that they wanted peace, but it was all a lie, because in 1914 war broke out. In the decades leading up to that year, Germany had amassed wealth and become the world's second largest economy. So, as predicted in Daniel 11:29 and the first part of verse 30, Germany decided to fight the king of the south, but was defeated.
