The rivers return to the place where they were born (Eccl. 1:7).

There is liquid water on Earth because our planet is at the perfect distance from the Sun. If it were a little closer, all the water would evaporate, and the planet would be nothing more than a hot, bare rock. But if it were a little further away, all the water would freeze, and the planet would turn into a big ball of ice. Because Jehovah placed the earth in this ideal location, the water cycle can support life. How does this cycle work? The Sun heats the water in the oceans and on the Earth's surface, and the water that evaporates ends up forming clouds. Every year, the Sun evaporates almost 500,000 cubic kilometers (120,000 cubic miles) of water. That water stays in the atmosphere for about ten days, then falls as rain or snow, and ends up back in the oceans or other bodies of water. Then the cycle starts again. This effective and sustainable cycle demonstrates that Jehovah is wise and powerful (Job 36:27, 28). w20.05 22 para. 6

Thanks to our ability to draw moral lessons, what can we human beings do?

Of all the living beings on the planet, only humans have the ability to draw moral lessons from the experiences of the past. Remembering and analyzing these experiences helps us adopt higher moral values ​​and correct our way of thinking and acting (1 Cor. 6:9-11; Col. 3:9, 10). In fact, we can train our conscience to know right from wrong (Heb. 5:14). We can learn to express love, compassion, and mercy, as well as develop a balanced sense of justice.

According to Psalm 77:11, 12, how should we use the gift of memory?

One way to show that we appreciate the gift of memory is by trying to remember all the times that Jehovah has helped and comforted us. This will strengthen our confidence that he will help us again in the future (read Psalm 77:11, 12; 78:4, 7). Another way to show that we appreciate that gift is by remembering all the good that other people do us and thanking them. Researchers have found that grateful people are generally happier. When it comes to using our memory, we do well to imitate Jehovah. There are things that he decides to forget. For example, even though he has a perfect memory, he chooses to forgive and forget our mistakes if we repent (Ps. 25:7; 130:3, 4). And he wants us to do the same to those who offend us (Matt. 6:14; Luke 17:3, 4).
