TREASURES OF THE BIBLE, September 5-11, 2022, “Praise Jehovah for His Wisdom,” Prepared Talk.
“Praise Jehovah for His Wisdom” (10 min.)
Julio is a lawyer who said the following: “I studied law for five years at one of the best universities in Spain. However, what I learned, when I learned to study the Bible was much better. The university taught me to study, the Bible taught me to live. And those of us who have studied the Word of God know that through the Bible we can access God's thoughts, his principles and his instructions.
That is why the scriptures call him the Magnificent instructor, or the Hebrew text can also call him "instructors", that is, the plural of the majestic. That allows us to understand the wisdom of God. Now, think about being instructed by the wisest person in the universe, having access to Jehovah's knowledge and of course applying it, you would not make sages. For that reason we are going in this section of Treasures of the Bible to review the title: "Praise Jehovah for his wisdom." How can we do it?
For this we are going to review the example of Solomon, how his actions praised Jehovah before others. We have already reviewed Solomon's request in previous weeks when Jehovah told him to ask for what he wanted, and he only wished that he had the necessary wisdom to lead God's people. And Jehovah granted it. Wisdom that he was admired by many. And of course, apart from this, he received other benefits that Jehovah also offered him because of his humility at that time.
LET'S READ: 1 Kings 10:1,3.
1 The queen of Sheba heard of Solomon's fame for the name of Jehovah. So she came to test him with tough questions. 2 She arrived in Jerusalem with a very impressive retinue, with camels bringing balsamic oil, lots of gold and precious stones. She went before Solomon and told him everything that was on her mind. 3 Solomon answered all her questions. There was nothing too difficult for the king. She was able to explain everything to him.
In this biblical story appears the queen of Sheba, from a kingdom in the southern part, very far from Jerusalem, and the news of Solomon's wisdom had arrived there. Her account says that she was very impressed with what Solomon mentioned, and of course, also when she arrived she showed the wealth that she possessed. According to the Insight book, there were approximately millions of dollars worth of gifts in gold alone that this queen gave to Solomon. But what matters here is how he answered all the questions this queen brought up.
And as we see at the end of verse three, there was nothing too difficult for the king. He was able to explain everything to her. What was this due to? Because we see in verse one that Solomon had achieved that fame for the name of Jehovah. That is, Jehovah was responsible for all his wisdom. But Solomon was not only able to achieve this, he not only drew attention to himself.
It is like us when we bring the good news of the kingdom of God. It is true that people are impressed by what we know. How can we use the Word of God to answer seemingly difficult questions? For example, when someone asks us, what happens to someone when he dies? For many that is a question that is impossible to answer. But the word of God has the answer.
That person remains unconscious, does not feel, does not think and there is the hope of resurrection if he is in the memory of Jehovah. Difficult questions, but with the Bible, with the wisdom of God, we can prove the answer.
LET'S READ: 1 Kings 10:4,5.
4 When the queen of Sheba saw all the wisdom of Solomon, the house that he had built, 5 the food on his table, the way his servants were sitting, the service of the waiters and his attire, when she saw his butlers and the burnt sacrifices that he regularly offered in the house of Jehovah, she gasped.
Now this queen was not only amazed at what Solomon was able to answer her, but she also saw the way everything was organized, even the way her servants, waiters, attire, etc. sat down. Everything, she says she gasped. And it is not true that when people have seen how Jehovah's organization works, they are really amazed.
We have heard of reports that they even want to contract the construction services of Jehovah's Witnesses, because everything is in an order that they really admire. Or how about when you have been to visit the Bethel home. It is not true all the cleanliness, the order, everything as it works. With an accuracy that admires, that it seems that nobody lived there, because there is nothing dirty, there is nothing that can hinder the name of Jehovah.
It really is a way of exalting the wisdom of Jehovah. But this queen went much further, she was honest with Solomon and told him what she had thought before arriving.
LET'S READ: 1 Kings 10:6,9.
6 So he told the king, “Everything I heard in my country about your achievements and wisdom was true. 7 But I didn't believe what they said until I came and saw it with my own eyes. And the truth is that they hadn't told me the half of it. Your wisdom and wealth far exceed what I've heard. 8 Happy your men and happy your servants, who are always with you listening to your wisdom! 9 Praise be to the LORD your God, who has seen you favorably and has set you on the throne of Israel. Because of his everlasting love for Israel, Jehovah has appointed you king to rule justly and righteously.”
There are many Bible experts who mention that this queen said what she felt, to the point that some of them say that she was so surprised that she possibly fainted when she saw the order. And not only the queen pronounced Solomon happy, but also her servants who were around this man who had the wisdom of God. It must have been impressive what this queen saw and of course she heard from Solomon.
What can we do? Well, we find ourselves in the same situation. Just like this queen, we want to value the wisdom of God. As this brother Julio said: «The university taught him to study, but the Bible taught him to live» and that is what we want to recognize. We have come to improve thanks to the Word of God, thanks to the wisdom of God, we want to share that message with other people so that they also feel the joy and happiness of seeing how this loving God has shared his knowledge with us.
We want to follow the example of Jesus, who is the greatest Solomon, and follow his model. This model that is related to bringing the good news of the Kingdom of God, that people do not admire us, but admire the wisdom that Jehovah has given through his Word. We have that beautiful privilege. Let us take advantage so that others also continue praising Jehovah for the wisdom that he has shared with each one of his faithful servants and that he has given us the honor of being able to bring to others who have a sincere heart.
