Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2022
Sunday October 2
They will sanctify my name (Isa. 29:23).
Although in this world we are surrounded by people who blaspheme and slander Jehovah's name, we have the opportunity to stand up for the truth: that Jehovah is holy, righteous, good, and loving. We can show that we want him to be our Ruler and tell people that his rule is the only truly righteous one and that he will bring peace and happiness to all creation (Ps. 37:9, 37; 146:5, 6, 10). When we teach Bible classes, we often emphasize the sovereignty of God. And it is true that Jehovah has the right to rule the universe. Now, while it's important to talk about God's laws, our main goal is to help people love and be loyal to our Father. Therefore, we must highlight the attractive qualities of Jehovah and the personality behind his name (Is. 63: 7). If we do this, people will love Jehovah and obey him because they want to be loyal to him. w20.06 6 para. 16; 7 para. 19
What did Jesus do to make his Father's name known?
When we defend the name of Jehovah, we are following the example of Jesus Christ (John 17:26). Jesus made known his Father's name not only by using it, but also by teaching what Jehovah is really like. For example, when the Pharisees portrayed Jehovah as a demanding, uncompromising, cruel, and ruthless God, Jesus helped the people see that his Father is reasonable, patient, loving, and compassionate. He also helped people to know Jehovah by his perfect way of imitating the qualities of his Father in his daily life (John 14:9).
How can we refute the lies and slander of Jehovah's enemies?
Like Jesus, we can share what we know about Jehovah and talk about how loving and kind he is. Thus we refute the lies and slanders of his enemies. We sanctify Jehovah's name and help people see him as holy. And, although we are imperfect, we can imitate Jehovah (Eph. 5:1, 2). When our words and actions show people what Jehovah is really like, we are helping to hallow his name. We vindicate him by helping people free themselves from misconceptions they may have about God.* We also sanctify Jehovah's name by maintaining integrity despite being imperfect.—Job 27:5.
According to Isaiah 63:7, what is our main goal in teaching the Bible?
There is another thing we can do to hallow Jehovah's name. When we teach Bible classes, we often emphasize the sovereignty of God. And it is true that Jehovah has the right to rule the universe. Now, while it's important to talk about God's laws, our main goal is to help people love and be loyal to our Father. Therefore, we must highlight the attractive qualities of Jehovah and the personality behind his name (read Isaiah 63: 7). If we do this, people will love Jehovah and obey him because they want to be loyal to him.
What question will we answer in the next article?
In view of all that sanctifying Jehovah's name entails, how can we ensure that our conduct and teaching honor God's name and help draw people closer to him? The following article will answer this question.
