“Good advice from a father who loved his son” (10 min.)

If you are a Father or a Mother, you will understand very well this illustration that we are going to do. Imagine: That one day like any other, your 17-year-old son tells you that he is not going to serve Jehovah anymore, or that he met a person at school and they started to go out

Wouldn't it be something very complicated to handle? It is normal that as parents we worry a lot in these situations. And that is so, because we love our children very much and we want the best for them.

However, in a situation like this, controlling mood is essential, since giving good advice is not simply transmitting information, but skillfully helping to reason with our children, and in this way they will change their behavior of their own free will and not because we force them.

Let's think about King David of Ancient Israel, he knew this situation very well, that is why on a certain occasion knowing that his son Solomon was inexperienced and someone very young. Before the construction of the temple, David decided to give his son some love advice, and in this consideration of Treasures of the Bible entitled: "the good advice of a father who loved his son" we are going to consider, what were these tips? .

Before we begin, let's think for a second about how Solomon reacted to this advice and then we will also see how today's parents can imitate the example of King David. Let's start with the first tip. Please open your Bible to the book of 1 Chronicles 28:9. the part: A. To see what was the first advice that King David gave to Solomon and while we read this advice, visualize the image in your activity guide, especially the background image when we saw King David advising his beloved son. Taking this into account, please read the quoted text. And please do not close your Bible, we will continue analyzing.

WE ARE GOING TO READ 1 CHRONICLES 28:9. PART A.

"And you, Solomon, my son, know the God of your father."

As we see Dear brothers, this was David's first advice to Solomon. David told his son to know Jehovah. But why was this advice so important? For the simple reason that the more Solomon knew Jehovah, the more he could love and respect him and at the same time cling to him.

So basically when David advises Solomon to know Jehovah, David wanted to make sure that Solomon has strong faith in the God he worships. Even because anyone who knows Jehovah is hardly attracted to him, On the contrary, anyone who knows Jehovah wants to worship him, Wants to do his will and have a great relationship with him.

So David Knowing this advised Solomon to get to know Jehovah better, but now parents what is the lesson we can learn? Dear parents, the lesson is that we must take time to know the Biblical truths well and in this way we will also know the personality of Jehovah.

The more we know about Jehovah and the Biblical truths and his personality, the more motivated we will feel to teach them to our children as well, and what will be the effect? Our children will have a strong faith, otherwise it is also true, if we do not know Jehovah first, we will hardly be able to teach our children, that is our determination as parents to know Jehovah first to help our children to do the same. To see the second advice we continue in Chapter 28 verse 9 but the part: B.

WE ARE GOING TO READ 1 CHRONICLES 28:9. PART: B.

And serve him with a full heart and gladly.

What did David mean by this advice? David was telling Solomon that it was important to serve Jehovah fully. Dear brothers, to serve Jehovah fully, it means to serve him completely or in other words, to serve Jehovah fully meant to live for Jehovah, this would be excellent advice, because Solomon was about to build a temple for Jehovah. So it was necessary for him to love the owner of that temple so that he would feel motivated to continue doing everything that Jehovah expected of him.

Parents, let's teach our children to fully serve Jehovah through our good example. It is important, dear parents, that you participate wholeheartedly in theocratic activities with your children. Prepare for meetings together, preach the good news together, attend meetings, and have regular family worship.

The more we immerse ourselves in spiritual activities, dear brothers and fathers, we will feel that our children will imitate the example we are giving them. So when we encourage our children to do the same to serve Jehovah fully, it will be much easier for them to accept that advice because they know that you as parents are also fulfilling spiritual things. Don't get up yet dear brothers. David has a third piece of advice. Let's read please: 1 Chronicles Chapter 28 and verse 20.

WE ARE GOING TO READ 1 CHRONICLES 28:20.

Then David said to his son Solomon: “Be strong and courageous, and get to work. Do not be afraid or terrified, for Jehovah God, my God, is with you. It won't leave you or forsake you. He will be with you until all the work for the service of the house of Jehovah is finished.

What was the third tip? David encouraged his son not to be afraid and to always trust in Jehovah. When Solomon did this, Automatically he could have a special friendship with his God David, he knew that when we are not afraid our faith hardly diminishes And we will have perseverance and determination and thus we will be able to remain faithful to Jehovah.

So Dear Parents, what is the lesson? Let's always encourage our children, and why do we say this. Dear parents, you may not have realized it, but your children are under a lot of pressure at school, at work and even in their daily life, these days it is hard to be different and our children are already under so much pressure, that is why tell them how much you appreciate the efforts they are making and the loyalty they are showing. And assure them that Jehovah God will always be by their side. If we do that, we will be imitating the example of King David who gave his son three pieces of loving advice.

When we look at the image in our Activity Guide for this week, we see that David's advice really did go a long way. Solomon is there leading the work of the temple, brave, determined and fearless, and why?, because he received advice of love. David preferred to trust his son, even though he knew he had little experience. David said son you can do it, David didn't criticize Solomon, he didn't pull his ear so to speak, but he helped him get ahead.

That is why Dear Parents, please continue to give loving advice to your children, encourage them to know Jehovah, encourage them to serve Jehovah fully and not be afraid, to trust Jehovah with all their hearts, and rest assured that this advice will have lasting effects. Now and forever.
