Do not be afraid of the things you are going to suffer (Rev. 2:10).

Throughout history, humans have done much harm to one another. (Eccl. 8:9) For example, some abuse their power, commit violent crimes, insult and threaten their schoolmates, or treat their own family members cruelly. No wonder humans are afraid of each other! How does Satan take advantage of this fear? He takes advantage of our fear of others to make us stop preaching or fulfilling other commands of Jehovah. He has caused some governments to ban our work and persecute us. (Luke 21:12) In this Devil-controlled world, many people spread distorted information or malicious lies about Jehovah’s Witnesses. Those who believe these lies may mock us or even physically abuse us. (Matt. 10:36) And we are not at all surprised by Satan’s strategies; he used them as far back as the first century. (Acts 5:27, 28, 40) w22.06 16 pars. 10, 11.

Why is it so important to be convinced of Jehovah’s love when our family members reject us? (Psalm 27:10)

How beautiful and comforting are the words of Psalm 27:10! (Read it.) When we remember how much Jehovah loves us, we will feel safe even when others turn against us, and we will be confident that he will reward us for our endurance. Jehovah will take care of our physical, emotional, and spiritual needs—and he will do it better than anyone else. This is exactly what Biniam, mentioned in paragraph 1, discovered.

What does Biniam's example teach you?

Biniam decided to become one of Jehovah’s Witnesses even though he knew that he would face brutal persecution from the authorities. He says: “The government persecution was worse than I had imagined. But I was more afraid of my family’s opposition. I was terrified of disappointing my father and losing the respect of my family by becoming a Witness.” What helped him overcome this fear? Knowing that Jehovah loves him and always takes care of those who love him. Biniam explains: “I began to think about what Jehovah has done to help those who have endured despite economic hardship, prejudice, and mob attacks. I knew that if I held on to Jehovah’s strength, he would bless me. I was arrested many times and even tortured. In those distressing moments, I saw with my own eyes that if we are loyal to Jehovah, he helps us a lot.” For Biniam, Jehovah became a true father, and his brothers, a true family.Books of Jehovah

Why is it normal to be afraid of dying?

The Bible says that death is an enemy. (1 Cor. 15:25, 26) Thinking about death can cause us great distress, especially if we or a loved one is seriously ill. Why do we fear the thought of death? Because Jehovah created us to desire to live forever. (Eccl. 3:11) But a reasonable degree of fear of death can protect us. For example, it may prompt us to watch our diet, exercise, avoid unnecessary risks, and see a doctor and take medication when necessary.

16. How does Satan take advantage of our natural fear of dying?

Satan knows that we value life highly. That’s why he claims that we are willing to sacrifice anything—even our friendship with Jehovah—to stay alive. (Job 2:4, 5) But how wrong he is! Because he “has the means to cause death,” he takes advantage of our natural fear of death to get us to turn our backs on Jehovah. (Heb. 2:14, 15) Sometimes Satan uses people to threaten us and tell us that if we don’t renounce our faith, we will be killed. Or he may use a medical emergency to get us to give in and fail Jehovah. Doctors or non-Witness family members may pressure us to accept a blood transfusion, which is against God’s law. Or someone may try to convince us to accept treatment that violates Bible principles.
