Speech (5 mins.) lmd appendix A point 8. Title: Husband and wife should be faithful to each other (th lesson 13).
Today we will address a topic that deeply touches the hearts of many families: fidelity in marriage. We live in a world where relationships face multiple challenges and temptations abound. Given this panorama, perhaps we ask ourselves: How can we strengthen our marital commitment? And why is it so important to be faithful in marriage?
The answer not only affects the relationship between husband and wife, but also the happiness and stability of the entire family. To discover the importance of this commitment, let's read the words of Jesus in Matthew 19:4-6:
“He answered them, 'Did you not read that He who created you in the beginning made you male and female, and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. "Therefore, what God has joined together, let no man put asunder."
These words emphasize that marriage is sacred, instituted by Jehovah himself. Therefore, fidelity is not only a commitment between spouses, but also with God. By respecting this bond, we protect something that Jehovah deeply values.
But what happens when this commitment is broken? Infidelity, sadly, can lead to divorce, a devastating experience for everyone involved. Let's see what Jehovah thinks about this in Malachi 2:16:
“For I hate divorce,” says Jehovah, the God of Israel, “and him who acts violently,” says Jehovah of hosts. Be attentive to your attitude and do not be treacherous.”
Why does Jehovah hate divorce? Because it destroys a union that He established and causes deep pain to the people He loves so much, especially children, who often suffer the emotional consequences of a separation. The Bible also warns us about the spiritual consequences of unfaithfulness. Let's read Hebrews 13:4:
“Let everyone honor marriage and let no one defile the marriage bed, because God will judge those who are sexually immoral and adulterers.”
These words remind us that infidelity not only hurts the couple, but also damages our relationship with Jehovah. On the contrary, fidelity is an act of love, respect and loyalty towards God and towards our spouse.
How can couples put this into practice, avoiding situations that jeopardize trust, such as hidden messages or inappropriate friendships? Being transparent and honest strengthens the relationship. In addition to strengthening the marital bond, fidelity brings joy and satisfaction. Let's look at what Proverbs 5:18 says:
“May your fountain be blessed, and rejoice with the wife of your youth.”
This happiness arises from the mutual trust and security that fidelity provides. A marriage based on these principles offers an environment where both spouses can flourish emotionally and spiritually. What can husbands do to apply this advice? Listen with empathy, spend quality time and pray together. These actions strengthen unity and love.
If you are married, we encourage you to continue showing fidelity to your partner. If you are not married, prepare to be a faithful spouse in the future. Loyalty begins with cultivating good values and principles now, which will build a strong marriage later.
And what about our children? They also benefit greatly. A stable home provides them with emotional security and a practical example of what relationships based on love and loyalty should be like. Our faithfulness, therefore, not only builds our marriage, but also helps our children love and serve Jehovah as they see our good example.
In conclusion, dear brothers, fidelity in marriage is not only a biblical mandate, it is a source of countless blessings. As we saw in Malachi 2:16, Jehovah hates divorce because he wants our families to be happy and stable. By being faithful, we not only honor God, but we protect our marriage and give a valuable legacy to our children. Let us continue to strive every day to strengthen this sacred bond that Jehovah has entrusted to us.
