TREASURES FROM GOD'S WORD, February 24, March 2, 2025, Why study eagerly, Prepared Speech.

Why study hard (10 mins.)

If we look at the image in our activity guide, in this “Treasures of the Bible” section, we can see a person who is digging to find precious metals, such as gold or silver. Their extraction method is from the time when the Bible was written, using simple tools and working with their hands, digging the earth little by little. No technology like what mining companies have today, which play it safe because they have done an in-depth study before starting to remove the earth.

Not here; Here we see a man who, with his hands, little by little enters the earth to find those precious metals. And someone who appreciates mining, who values ​​precious metals, knows that these are not found on the surface. He's willing to dig deep, move tons of dirt and rock, and work tirelessly until he finds a tiny nugget of gold. But what effort does all this involve? Did you know that these gold deposits are normally found at a depth of between 1,200 and 4,500 meters, and that just to extract almost 4 grams of gold, approximately one ton of rock (1,000 kg of soil) needs to be removed?

Seeing this man's image, would you be willing to dig so much just to get 4 grams of gold, which is approximately $400? Why does someone try so hard to get that gold? Because you know it has great value.

Similarly, Jehovah’s wisdom and knowledge are priceless treasures. To find them, we must be willing to make an effort and study hard. Yes, with enthusiasm, because it is very different to study out of obligation, just because you have to meet a goal. It is much better to study with a purpose.

How about we review this in this “Treasures of the Bible” speech, titled “Why Study Hard?” Let's look at three reasons to do it:

1. We value the truth

LET'S READ PROVERBS 2:3,4

If you also cry out for understanding and raise your voice to gain discernment, 4 if you continue looking for this as if it were money and you always go in search of it as if it were hidden treasures.

What can it mean to search for the truth as if it were silver and hidden treasures? That we should value the truth above anything else. We must have in our minds the goal of finding the wisdom of Jehovah. When we study eagerly, we show that we appreciate that wisdom and want to learn more from Him, trying to think like Him and act like Him, of course, with our limitations, but understanding things as Jehovah understands them.

Now, it is true that not everyone enjoys reading and studying, but Jehovah invites us to seek His knowledge in order to better understand the truth. Why is it important to do so? Because when we make an effort to study the Bible and our publications, we always win. A brother named Cori says: “I read the footnotes, look for marginal references, and start researching. “This is how I get the most out of my reading.”

This brother goes deeper and goes inside the information. He is not content to look at it and say, “It's nice and let's continue.” No, he really wants to get to the treasure, and that takes time, he talks about one verse at a time. How much dedication! How much time do you put into deep study of the Bible. That is studying with enthusiasm. Of course, each one has their method, according to their circumstances.

The first reason to study hard is that we show that we value the truth.

2. It helps us make good decisions

How is this possible?

LET'S READ PROVERBS 2:5-7

Then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. 6 For it is the Lord who gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and discernment. 7 He reserves practical wisdom for those who are righteous. It is a shield for those who live with integrity.

This verse is very clear. If we seek Jehovah, we will find the knowledge of God, the treasure we so desire, and we will gain wisdom to make good decisions. Let us remember that wisdom is the ability to use what we learn to act correctly, but true wisdom begins with the fear of Jehovah.

As Christians, to make wise decisions, we need to know Jehovah's way of thinking. How do we achieve it? Studying the Bible and our publications. By doing so, we show that we value Jehovah’s wisdom and want Him to guide our steps.

The second benefit of studying hard is that it helps us make good decisions because we think as Jehovah thinks.

3. Strengthens our faith

LET'S READ PROVERBS 2:11,12

The ability to think will watch over you and discernment will protect you 12 to free you from the evil path, from the man who says perverse things.

Notice that Proverbs 2:11,12 tells us that thinking ability and discernment will protect us. About what? From false ideas and teachings that can damage our faith. Nowadays, it is very easy to fall into the trap of supposedly sincere questions with the desire to know, but which come from people who want to shake our faith. They are misleading questions, questions that seem to have good intentions, but whose purpose is to deceive those who fall into that trap.

How different it is when we study with enthusiasm. We strengthen our faith and become more resistant to the negative influences of the world. We immediately detect that a question or a possible conversation wants to lead us into doubt, and we immediately avoid it. Young people especially need to strengthen their faith, because due to their lack of experience, they can easily fall into these traps. Therefore, carefully study the Bible and our publications. Use your thinking skills to understand why we believe what we believe. By doing so, they become stronger and can defend their faith with conviction.

This is the third benefit of studying with enthusiasm, strengthening our faith.

Some see studying as a burden, but that is not the case. It is an opportunity to get closer to Jehovah, to strengthen our faith and to make better decisions in life.

Let's go back to the image of that miner who, with his hands, is removing the earth and finding the valuable treasure. We too must not give up in our search for divine wisdom. Just as the miner knew that the gold was worth the effort, we too must recognize the incalculable value of Jehovah’s wisdom.

By studying hard, we are investing in our eternal future. May our study be like a search for a treasure that will change our lives forever. Therefore, let us make study an essential part of our Christian life and thus we will be prepared to face the challenges of life and to serve Jehovah with all our hearts.
