In the face of the uncertainty of natural disasters, epidemics, or violent conflicts, every heartbeat reminds us of the preciousness of the life Jehovah has given us. Today we will reflect on how to cultivate prudence and courage, guided by the wisdom of the Scriptures, especially the counsel of Proverbs 14:15.
Let this talk awaken in us a calm determination to protect our lives and the lives of our loved ones, while honoring our commitment to Jehovah and his organization.
LET'S READ PROVERBS 14:15
The naive believe everything they are told, but the prudent consider their every step carefully.
Emergencies generate a wealth of information: rumors, chain messages, and alarmist theories. If we accept everything we receive without filtering it, our inner peace weakens and we run the risk of making hasty decisions.
Prudence requires comparing data with the most reliable government and medical sources, and, as Jehovah's Witnesses, heeding the instructions of the Governing Body and the local branch regarding meetings and preaching. This demonstrates respect for life and gives a good reputation to God's people.
No one can stop an earthquake or divert a hurricane, but we can reduce risks. Stockpiling water, non-perishable food, and a first aid kit isn't a lack of faith, but an act of gratitude for the gift of life.
During epidemics, compliance with health measures—handwashing, masks, social distancing—reflects appreciation for our own health and that of others. The prudent plan; the naive improvise.
LET'S READ PROVERBS 14:12
There is a path that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.
Perhaps our past experience convinces us that we know what to do. However, every crisis is different, and overconfidence can blind us. Let us remember the exhortation in Proverbs 22:3 to be reasonable and not take unnecessary risks. The life entrusted to us is a sacred treasure. Let us not compromise it out of pride.
LET'S READ PROVERBS 14:7
Stay away from the foolish man, for on his lips you will find no knowledge.
Some disregard the organization's warnings or mock its preparation. Others spread conspiracy theories that erode trust. Let us not allow their voices to extinguish the light of faith. Unity saves lives; disobedience endangers them.
Shepherds of the flock should regularly review disaster protocols, promote drills, and, above all, cultivate trust in Jehovah. Like Priest Zadok, they may be called to assist their brothers in dangerous circumstances. To do this:
1. Follow the branch's instructions exactly.
2. Act with courage, but with prudence, avoiding unnecessary risks.
3. Trust that Jehovah strengthens those who serve him with a whole heart.
There will be emergencies until Jehovah makes all things new. In the meantime, each of us decides whether to be naive or prudent. May the warning of Proverbs 14:15 remain in our conscience: let us not believe everything, let us be careful.
May the clarity of Proverbs 14:12 remind us that the easiest path can end badly. And may Proverbs 14:7 urge us to turn away from foolish voices and embrace the loving guidance that comes from above. By acting in this way, we will strengthen unity, preserve life, and bring glory to Heavenly Father. Let us trust, then, and proceed with discernment and courage.
