Reject unbiblical customs and traditions (10 mins.)
We live in a world filled with customs and traditions that are often not in harmony with Jehovah's will. Since childhood, we have been surrounded by traditions, holidays, and customs. Some are part of our school or work environment, while others are even linked to very personal moments like funerals or weddings.
But have we stopped to consider whether these practices please Jehovah? As Jehovah's Witnesses, we not only want to avoid what He disapproves of, but also to understand why He disapproves of it. Some of these practices may seem harmless or even fun, but if Jehovah disapproves of them, is it worth participating in them?
The Bible teaches us that not all customs and traditions are acceptable in Jehovah's sight, and that some may even be contrary to his teachings. Therefore, it is crucial that we reject unbiblical customs and traditions and strive to live according to biblical principles.
If you obey Jehovah, you will be truly happy.
Obedience to Jehovah is the key to our true happiness.
LET'S READ JAMES 4:7
“Therefore, submit to God, but oppose the Devil and he will flee from you.”
This means that if we do Jehovah's will and stand firm against Satan's influences, He will protect us.
First-century Christians understood this very well. In Ephesus, many of them burned their books on magic, realizing that such practices offended God (Acts 19:19, 20).
Their example teaches us that ridding ourselves of everything associated with spiritualism or unbiblical customs is a clear sign of obedience. And such obedience brings Jehovah's approval and blessing, which makes us truly happy.
To find out if Jehovah accepts a certain custom, ask him for wisdom.
But what if we're not sure whether a certain custom displeases Jehovah? The Bible gives us some very valuable advice.
LET'S READ JAMES 1:5
“So if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God constantly, and he will receive it, for he gives generously to all and does not find fault.”
This encourages us to turn to Jehovah in sincere prayer and ask for guidance.
In addition, Jehovah has given us other help. We can research the issue in our publications, and if we still have doubts, we can consult the congregation elders. They won't make the decision for us, but they will help us understand biblical principles that will enable us to train our "perceptive powers," as Hebrews 5:14 says, to distinguish right from wrong.
When we humbly seek Jehovah's guidance, we demonstrate that our desire is not to please the world, but to please our loving heavenly Father.
Resist pressure to follow unbiblical customs
Sometimes the pressure to participate in certain festivities or customs is overwhelming, especially if it comes from family, friends, classmates, or coworkers. Some may make us feel like we don't fit in or disrespectful for not joining in those celebrations.
LET'S READ PROVERBS 29:25
“Trembling before men is a trap, but whoever trusts in the Lord will be protected.”
How can we resist this pressure? First, we must be clear about why Jehovah disapproves of certain practices. Knowing the origin and meaning of many holidays and traditions helps us see them as Jehovah sees them. As Ephesians 5:10 says, we must be sure of “what pleases the Lord.” Furthermore, trusting in Jehovah and his Word protects us from the fear of what others will say.
It's also important to remember that Jehovah sees everything we do. According to 2 Chronicles 16:9, "His eyes run throughout the earth to show his strength to those whose heart is wholehearted toward him." Jehovah not only sees us, but also strengthens and protects us when we choose to do what is right.

He then decides to share his beliefs with some non-Witness family members. Some listen attentively, but others express their indignation.
It's in times like these that deep Bible study and good communication can help you stand firm. By being well-prepared and grounded in God's Word, we can face the pressures and criticisms of others with confidence and wisdom.
Conclusion
Standing firm in the face of unbiblical customs isn't always easy, but it is possible with Jehovah's help. Obeying him brings true happiness. Seeking his wisdom guides our decisions. And trusting in his protection gives us the courage to resist the pressure of the world.
May we all continue to strive to please Jehovah in all we do, confident that He will never cease to bless those who are faithful to Him.
