Setting: During a follow-up home visit to an interested person, the publisher continues the conversation they had started about the tract entitled “Will We Ever Stop Suffering?” They discuss Scriptural reasons for trusting what the Bible says and talk about how God views suffering and how he promises to eliminate it through his Kingdom.
Publisher: Hello, [name], how are you?
Assistant: Hello, [name], I'm fine.
Publisher: [Name], do you remember that the last time we spoke I told you I would come back today to continue the conversation? That day we talked about how we will stop suffering someday, as mentioned in the treaty I left you.
Assistant: Yes, I remember it, and I have the treatise here. I read it a couple of times. The title really caught my attention: Will We Ever Stop Suffering? It made me think about many things.
Publisher: Exactly, that's the starting point. The treatise also includes a question I'd like us to review together: Are there reasons to believe what the Bible says? What do you think?
Assistant: Well, there are several, but at least two are quite clear.
Publisher: Tell me.
Assistant: The first is that God hates suffering and injustice. Judges 2:18 tells how Jehovah felt when his people were cruelly treated in ancient times. It says: “Whenever Jehovah gave them a judge, Jehovah was with him and saved them from the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge. For Jehovah had compassion on them when he heard them groaning because of those who oppressed and mistreated them.”
Publisher: Yes, Jehovah was saddened by the way they were treated and he had compassion on them, for he is a compassionate and just God. You can read Proverbs 6:16, 17.
Assistant: Of course, it says there: “There are six things that Jehovah hates; yes, there are seven things that he detests: 17proud eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood.”
Publisher: So we see how God dislikes people who cause suffering to others. What is the second reason?
Assistant: The second reason is that God cares about every person.
Publisher: You can read 2 Chronicles 6:29, 30.
Assistant: Of course. It says: “Whatever prayer or supplication any person or all your people Israel may make when they stretch out their hands toward this house (for each one knows their own plague and their own pain), 30then hear from heaven, from your dwelling place, and forgive them. Repay each one according to their conduct, for you know their hearts (only you truly know the hearts of people).”
Publisher: What do you think about that?
Assistant: That God is not a distant being, and although we may believe that only we know our pain, the truth is that Jehovah is also aware, as the verses I just read say.
Publisher: That's right. Jehovah is aware of the pain we are going through. The Bible also promises that, through God's Kingdom, suffering will soon be eliminated.
Assistant: It's comforting to know that. So, the hope is that the Kingdom of God will change everything.
Publisher: Exactly. Meanwhile, our Creator, Jehovah, tenderly comforts all who sincerely seek him.
Assistant: I like that.
Publisher: Would it be okay if I came back next week?
Assistant: That sounds perfect. Thank you for coming back and for the explanation.
