“Be imitators of God, as beloved children” (Ephesians 5:1).
1. Why is it so impressive to think that Jehovah is humble?
It is striking to think that Jehovah is humble, because when we think of people who have power, it is very likely that they are not humble. However, Jehovah, who is the Almighty, is. Humility permeates his entire personality, and there is not the slightest trace of pride in him.

Because, in general, people in positions of power tend to be proud. However, Jehovah, although all-powerful, is striking because one of his qualities is humility, a quality that permeates his entire personality.
It is impressive how Psalm 113:5-8 describes Jehovah's beautiful quality. It begins by saying, “Who is like Jehovah our God?” Then, verse 6 adds that he stoops down to lift up the lowly. It is beautiful to see how Jehovah, being the Almighty, stoops down to lift up the poor and the humble.
The paragraph mentions that humility permeates his entire personality, just as a good aroma can permeate an entire room, and that there is not even the slightest trace of pride in him.
In this article, we will examine four aspects of Jehovah’s beautiful personality and discover how humility is reflected in each of them. We will also see how Jesus was able to imitate this quality of his Father.
How important it is that we analyze the humility of Jehovah and that of Jesus. This will teach us what we must do if we want to be under Jehovah's care and how we can imitate this quality in our lives.
JEHOVAH IS ACCESSIBLE
2. What does Psalm 62:8 teach us about Jehovah? (See also the picture.)
It teaches us that, unlike proud people, who are usually unapproachable and act in such a way that other people do not dare to approach them or even avoid them completely, Jehovah, on the contrary, invites us to approach him and tell him all our feelings and thoughts.
Just as a loving father listens attentively to the concerns of his children, our Heavenly Father listens attentively to the prayers of His servants.

Psalm 62:8 concludes by saying that Jehovah is our refuge and that it is he who, through his humility, invites us to draw near, to tell him our worries and everything we feel and think.
Psalm 62:8 shows us that we can pour out our heart before Jehovah. Imagine doing that with important people in the world, such as a politician or a business leader. It would be impossible to get them to listen to us and show us personal interest. But with Jehovah, it's completely different.
Jehovah is a loving Father who, despite all the mistakes or sins we commit as imperfect beings, knows us, understands us, and forgives us. He is our Father, our Creator, and he gives us the opportunity to draw close to him; he opens his arms to us every time we make a mistake or sin. Therefore, we should always throw our problems, our worries, and even our sins on him and trust completely in Jehovah.
The Bible records that Jehovah has always been willing to listen to his servants. For example, Joshua 10:12-14 quotes Joshua speaking directly to Jehovah, saying: “Sun, stand still over Gibeon.” And so it happened: Jehovah made the sun stand still. This confirms that Jehovah is the perfect example of someone who is always willing to listen to us when we need him and who will always be there to help us.
Another example appears in 1 Samuel 1:10-15. It concerns Hannah. We all know how much she was suffering because she was barren and could not give her husband a son. Verse 15 shows that her situation was so distressing that she was suffering deeply, and she said: “That is why I am pouring out my heart to Jehovah.” Thus we see that Jehovah is an approachable God, to whom we can tell anything that worries us, because he always listens to us.
The account in Joshua 10:12-14 shows that Jehovah was willing to listen to the point that it is said there was no day like it; that is, it was truly extraordinary. It wasn't necessary to do so, but he did.
In the picture, we see a father with his son. The boy broke a vase while playing, and we see his father listening calmly and lovingly, without getting angry. Here, the father is imitating Jehovah's beautiful personality, allowing his son to express himself freely and talk easily with him.
The image also shows the father crouching down to the child's level. And in the previous paragraph, we saw in Psalm 113:6 that this is what Jehovah does: he too crouches down to listen to us and understand us.

3. Why are you sure that Jehovah wants you to pray to him always?
As the parable of the prodigal son tells us, in which Jesus spoke of a compassionate father whose son felt unworthy to return to the family because he had made many mistakes. As soon as he returned home, his father saw him, ran to meet him, embraced him, and kissed him tenderly.
Similarly, when Jehovah hears the prayer of someone overwhelmed by worries or guilt, he is moved by their humility to give them his full attention. His compassion compels him to “run” to them to comfort them and reaffirm his love and forgiveness.

Jehovah is like the father in the parable of the prodigal son, for he hears the prayer of one who is crushed by worries or guilt. His humility motivates him to give him his full attention, and his compassion compels him to draw near to comfort him and reaffirm his love and forgiveness.
Isaiah 57:15 says that Jehovah wants to revive the hearts of the crushed. That is why he wants to know how we feel so that he can help us.
We can imagine the father in the parable looking every day at the road in front of his house, anxiously awaiting his son's return. Likewise, we can imagine Jehovah attentive, so to speak, to any change of heart in sinners that might allow him to show them mercy.
The point made at the end of the paragraph is interesting, showing how Jehovah sometimes answers these prayers or comes to our aid. As mentioned, he may use elders, Witness family members, or other brothers and sisters. But what Jehovah really wants is for us to be close to him, and he often helps us through these brothers and sisters.
4. How did Jesus demonstrate that he was approachable?
Jesus demonstrated his approachability because, while he was on Earth, people felt comfortable approaching him. They asked him questions freely, and when he asked their opinion on a matter, they openly shared their thoughts.
They were not afraid if they made a mistake, because they knew that Jesus was good, merciful, and patient. His followers came to know Jehovah better because Jesus perfectly imitated his Father.
In this way, Jesus showed that Jehovah was nothing like the religious leaders of that time, who were harsh, proud, and insensitive. On the contrary, he is humble and approachable.

Because people felt comfortable approaching him and asking him questions freely. Even when he asked them their opinion on a certain matter, they openly told him what they thought, even if they might be wrong. They knew Jesus wouldn't treat them badly.
When they made a mistake, they weren't afraid of Jesus. For example, in Matthew 17:24-27, Peter hastily answered that Jesus paid the temple tax. Kindly, Jesus reasoned with him through questions and explained that, as the King's Son, he wasn't obligated to pay it. He didn't scold him or be harsh, but rather helped him arrive at the correct conclusion. That's why his disciples weren't afraid to make mistakes in his presence.
Jesus perfectly imitated his Father, enabling his disciples to come to know Jehovah better. They also learned that Jehovah was nothing like the religious leaders of that time, who were harsh, proud, and insensitive. On the contrary, they understood that God is humble and approachable.
5. Why does humility help us to be more approachable?
Humility helps us avoid flaws that push others away, such as envy, pride, and resentment. Furthermore, it helps us develop qualities that attract others, such as kindness, patience, and forgiveness.
Elders should strive to be approachable and friendly to the brothers and sisters so that they will feel comfortable coming to them. They might prefer to attend meetings in person rather than connect via videoconference and go out in the ministry from house to house with the brothers and sisters when possible. In this way, they allow the brothers and sisters to get to know them better and feel comfortable seeking them out when they need them.

On the one hand, it helps us avoid flaws that make others distance themselves from us, such as envy, pride, and resentment.

Colossians 3:13 speaks of a situation that will undoubtedly arise at some point. Someone may hurt us; even a brother or sister may wound us deeply. But it also reminds us of what Jehovah does for us. In one way or another, we sin against him. Sometimes we realize it, and sometimes we don't, but Jehovah sees our hearts, hears our prayers, and forgives us. That is what he wants us to do too: to not keep a record of the wrongs our brothers and sisters do to us and to forgive them, even if it has hurt us.
The paragraph also speaks of the elders and how they should set an example by demonstrating humility. They do this by attending meetings whenever their circumstances allow—preferably in person rather than by videoconference—and by actively participating in the preaching work. In this way, they are more approachable, set a good example, and the brothers can feel comfortable speaking with them because of their humility.
Humility, on the one hand, helps to avoid flaws that alienate people. On the other hand, it fosters good qualities that attract others; in other words, our attitudes can either repel or attract those around us.
JEHOVAH IS REASONABLE
6, 7. Mention an occasion when Jehovah granted the requests of his servants.
On one occasion, when Miriam, along with Aaron, began to speak against Moses, who was God's representative, Jehovah became very angry with her because she was disrespecting Him. So He punished her with leprosy. Aaron asked Moses to help her, and then Moses begged Jehovah to heal her. Far from sticking to His decision to punish her, Jehovah granted Moses' request and healed Miriam.
On another occasion, through a prophet, Jehovah announced to King Hezekiah, who was ill, that he was going to die. Hezekiah begged Jehovah with tears in his eyes to heal him, and Jehovah, moved by compassion, added 15 years to his life.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
For example, on one occasion Jehovah became very angry with Miriam because she had disrespected him by speaking ill of Moses to her brother Aaron. Moses then interceded, pleading with Jehovah to heal her of the leprosy with which she had been afflicted, and Jehovah agreed. This shows that Jehovah, in his humility, is willing to yield, and he ultimately healed Miriam.
Through the prophet, Jehovah announced to the ailing King Hezekiah that he was going to die. The king tearfully begged Jehovah to heal him. Moved by compassion, Jehovah granted him 15 more years of life.
These examples show us that Jehovah is not proud, because if he makes a decision and then changes it at someone's request, he wouldn't do so if he were proud. Therefore, this is a demonstration of his humility.
From these examples we are learning two more qualities of Jehovah: that he is flexible and compassionate. His humility makes these qualities predominant in him as well.
8. What examples demonstrate that Jesus is reasonable? (Mark 3:1-6).
Jesus demonstrated his reasonableness when, for example, he healed people on the Sabbath, even though the insensitive religious leaders objected. Furthermore, as head of the congregation, he continues to demonstrate this quality. For instance, when someone commits a serious sin, Jesus is patient with that person and gives them many opportunities to change.

In the case of the person whose hand Jesus healed, he not only healed it, but also reasoned with those present and asked them questions. They were unable to answer and remained silent. However, afterward, they tried to find a way to trap him.
We see how reasonable Jesus is, because he always looked for ways to help people whenever possible. It is a blessing to have him as head of the congregation, because he remains just as reasonable and is willing to forgive when we make a mistake or sin.
In Revelation 2:1-7 we see an example of this. Jesus gives advice to the congregation in Ephesus; he tells them they must repent, change, and return to the love they had at the beginning, but first he also reminds them of all the good they had done. So that is the Head we have in the congregation, and whom we want to imitate.
When Jesus healed people on the Sabbath, he could have told the sick to come back the next day, and the Pharisees would have complained. But he understood the importance of being reasonable and acted appropriately to help the sick at that time.
In Mark 3:1-6, we can see the contrast between Jesus and the Pharisees. In context, we know that the Pharisees had taken the Sabbath law and added a host of completely unreasonable and nonsensical rules. In contrast, Jesus put love above all that and acted with reason and common sense.
9. How can we imitate Jehovah and be reasonable? (See also the pictures.)
If we have children, we can imitate Jehovah by being reasonable parents who are neither permissive nor overly demanding, nor asking more of them than they can give. Furthermore, we should avoid making unfair comparisons between them.
Elders also demonstrate that they are reasonable when, instead of insisting on their own opinion, they support the majority decision, as long as it does not go against biblical principles.
Likewise, we should all strive to understand others' points of view, even if they differ from our own. In this way, we will follow this advice: "Let everyone know that you are reasonable people."
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
One way to do this is to not ask more of others than they can give. For example, the paragraph mentions parents who are reasonable with their children, since they don't demand more than they can do or give. Likewise, when we are with other siblings or other people, we should imitate this way of acting and not demand more from them than they can offer.
In the picture, we see a father preaching with his two children. The boy is giving a presentation and offering the brochure “Enjoy.” The girl, who is perhaps a little younger or shyer, is simply handing out a tract. The father doesn't expect the same from both of them, and surely, when he gets home, he values the effort of both equally, because each did what they could. That's how Jehovah treats us.
As for elders, being reasonable is a requirement, as mentioned in 1 Timothy 3:3. One way to demonstrate this is by supporting the decisions made by the majority of the body of elders, even if they disagree, as long as those decisions do not contradict Bible principles. In this way, they demonstrate reasonable character.
As for Jehovah, his principles, which are found in the Bible, are immutable, but his rules and decisions are not; he can change them, adapt them, or make exceptions. Therefore, we should also imitate Jehovah's reasonable personality.
Regarding the illustration, we can mention that, as seen in the image, the father is preaching with his children. We know that sometimes children have preached with siblings who are not their parents, so it's wise to exercise caution. Ideally, children should preach with their parents, as shown in the illustration.
Just like parents and elders, we too can imitate the humility of Jehovah and Jesus Christ. One way to do this is by understanding others’ viewpoints, even if they differ from our own. Romans 14:1 says that we should not judge in matters of differing opinions. In this way, humility will lead us to respect the opinions of others.
Jehovah is always right and never makes a mistake. The same cannot be said of any human being. Even so, Jehovah, although always right, humbly asks for the opinions of his servants. In our case, all the more reason, we must not only recognize that we are not always right, but also ask for the opinions of others and not only respect but appreciate their viewpoints, striving to understand them.

JEHOVAH IS PATIENT
10. In what ways has Jehovah shown that he is patient?
Jehovah showed his patience when, in Noah's day, he waited 120 years before destroying the wicked. This allowed Noah to raise his children and build the ark with his family.
Later, Jehovah also patiently listened to Abraham as he questioned him about his decision to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. In this way, Jehovah demonstrated his humility and patience.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
Jehovah demonstrated that there is no one in the universe as patient as he is. For example, in the days of Noah, he stated that he would wait 120 years before destroying the wicked.
We can see the patience Jehovah showed with Abraham in Genesis 18:20-33, when Abraham questioned and argued with him six times about the decision to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. Even so, Jehovah listened patiently, and we can see how humble he is in acting that way.
We know that Jehovah shows, or applies, patience when he judges people. In the case of human justice, patience can vary, and trials are often lengthy because humans need time to examine cases and evaluate evidence. But with Jehovah, it is different: he applies patience because he wants others to benefit.
11. According to 2 Peter 3:9, why is Jehovah being so patient today?
According to 2 Peter 3:9, Jehovah is so patient today “because he does not want anyone to be destroyed, but all to come to repentance.” Thanks to Jehovah’s patience, millions have come to know him, and we strive to help millions more do the same.
But God's patience has limits. He is patient with people and loves them, but he is not permissive, so he will not allow evil to last forever.

Because of his great love for mankind, Jehovah shows great patience, allowing ample time for as many people as possible to come to know and worship him. And although he has set a date to end this wicked system, he also shows patience by allowing time for that to happen.
The consequence of Jehovah's patience is that millions of people today are embracing his will and will therefore be saved. This shows that there are still many who, thanks to Jehovah's patience, will have the opportunity to be saved.
12. How does Jesus imitate Jehovah's patience?
Jesus imitates Jehovah's patience when, even though he has seen how Satan has spread terrible lies about God and faithful humans, and has also seen people suffer horrible things, he waits patiently.
Although he has the desire to “undo the works of the Devil,” he is humble and recognizes that it is up to Jehovah to decide when the best time is to act.

One of the main reasons why Jesus is humble is that he recognizes that Jehovah is the most important thing and that he decides when the best time is to act.
1 John 3:8 says that Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. So Jesus was prepared and eager to act, but he was humble and patient, waiting for Jehovah to show him the right time to do so.
Jesus had to wait a long time. For example, he saw Adam and Eve being told that what Jehovah told them was a lie. Later, something similar happened with Job: people said, “No, this man will not be faithful. Strike him and you will see how he curses you to your face.” Thus, Jesus had to hear lie after lie, and yet he did not act impulsively. Like any child, our first reaction upon seeing someone defy our Father might be to react immediately, but Jesus was patient.
13. In what situation did Jesus demonstrate that he was patient with his apostles, and why?
Jesus showed patience with his apostles when, time and again, he saw them arguing about who was the greatest. Even so, he didn't despair or become frustrated; on the contrary, he was very patient with them because he was sure that, in time, they would change.

One of the times Jesus showed great patience was when his apostles repeatedly argued about who was the greatest. He didn't despair, but lovingly corrected them and reasoned with them, showing them what it truly meant to be the greatest, confident that, in time, they would change.
Jesus was always very humble, and from the moment he began preaching with his apostles, he showed them that being the greatest was not important to him. On the contrary, he distanced himself from all that Jewish culture related to social ranks and the like. However, they had this mentality deeply ingrained and argued many times, even the night before Jesus died, about who was the greatest. Jesus never lost patience with them; he was very patient, and in the end, it was worth it, because we know from the biblical record that they changed and became humble.
The context of what happened that night of Nisan 14 helps us understand and appreciate Jesus' patience. Just before they began to argue, he washed their feet and told them they should be humble. Shortly after the argument, he knew he would have to give his life in an unparalleled display of humility, enduring torture. Furthermore, that very night he was to establish a covenant with them so they would be kings in heaven. Many of us, considering these factors, would have lost patience. But Jesus didn't; he was patient because he expected the best from them and was certain they would change.
We can also apply this paragraph to ourselves. Perhaps we have made many mistakes and find it difficult to believe that Jehovah has forgiven us. Therefore, we can reflect on how grateful we are that Jesus Christ is so patient and humble with us.
14. What will help us to be more patient?
To be more patient, it will help to develop “the mind of Christ.” There are no shortcuts to this: we must read the Gospels and take time to meditate on how Jesus’ actions reflected his way of thinking. In addition, it is essential that we ask Jehovah to help us to be humble like his Son.
The more we learn to think like Christ, the more we will resemble God and the more patient we will be with ourselves and with our brothers and sisters.

1 Corinthians 2:16 says that we can come to know Jehovah’s mind if we have Christ’s mind. Furthermore, there is a footnote in the text that explains that we can have Christ’s mind if we strive to understand how he thinks: if we meditate on all aspects of his personality, adopt his way of thinking, and imitate his example of humility and obedience. In this way, our thinking will reflect Christ’s mind, and in turn, we will also reflect Jehovah’s.
Although we can see practical examples, such as when we analyze the Gospels and observe when we can put humility into practice, it is not easy, to the point that we are told we must ask Jehovah for it. So, being humble in this time is a truly arduous exercise.
Something else that will help us to be more patient is reflecting on how Jehovah shows patience to us, as mentioned at Matthew 18:35. Just as we forgive our brothers and sisters, Jehovah will forgive us. This will certainly be a great help to us.
JEHOVAH DIGNIFIES THE HUMBLE
15. How has Jehovah fulfilled the words of Psalm 138:6?
Jehovah has fulfilled the words of Psalm 138:6 by giving special attention to those who often go unnoticed, such as the nurse named Deborah, who loyally served the families of Isaac and Jacob for some 125 years. Jehovah inspired Moses to record her name.
Jehovah chose David, a simple shepherd boy, to become king of Israel. Likewise, after Jesus was born, God granted humble shepherds, through an angel, the honor of being the first to learn that the future Messiah had been born in Bethlehem.
When Joseph and Mary took Jesus to the temple, Jehovah dignified Simeon and Anna—two very old people—by giving them the opportunity to see his Son.
These examples show us that, without a doubt, “though Jehovah is exalted, he looks upon the lowly.”
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
The Bible contains accounts of people who often go unnoticed, but not by Jehovah. In the Genesis account, we see that he made sure the name of the nurse Deborah was recorded because she faithfully served Isaac, Jacob, and Rebekah. And not only her name, but the footnote explains that when she died, she was buried next to a large tree in Bethel, which was named Allon-Bacuth, meaning “Heavy Tree of Weeping,” indicating how much Jacob and his family valued her. Thus, Jehovah wanted to record how faithful this woman was.
When Jesus was born, those invited to visit him were simple shepherds. And when he was presented at the temple, it was two elderly people, Simon and Anna, who recognized him as the Son of God, the Messiah. This shows that, although Jehovah is exalted, he looks upon the humble.
In Deborah's case, it is important to note that she had not served Jehovah for just a few days. The record states that she had served Jehovah for 125 years. It is very significant that Jehovah took notice of her and recorded her name in the Scriptures, giving us hope that Jehovah cares for all people, especially the humble.
As we have seen in Psalm 138:6, Jehovah fulfills these words: although he is exalted, he looks upon the lowly. This, in addition to giving them dignity, is also a demonstration of his love.
16. How did Jesus imitate his Father?
Jesus imitated his Father by dignifying the humble, teaching ordinary, uneducated people the truth about the Kingdom of God. He also lovingly healed the sick, restoring not only their health but also their dignity.
The night before he died, he washed the feet of his apostles, a task usually performed by servants. Furthermore, before ascending to heaven, he entrusted his followers with the most important task: helping others attain eternal life.

Jesus imitated his Father when he was here on Earth, focusing the good news directly on humble people, who in reality had no education or training, but who, on the contrary, really appreciated what Jesus taught them, giving them the dignity of coming to know Jehovah.
Before ascending to heaven, he gave his followers—which includes us—the honor of carrying out the most important work we can have: helping others attain eternal life through preaching.
17. How can we imitate Jehovah? (See also the picture.)
We can imitate Jehovah by giving all people the honor of hearing the good news, regardless of their skin color, level of education, or culture.
We also follow his example when, in dealing with our brothers and sisters, we consider them superior to ourselves, regardless of their abilities or responsibilities. Jehovah is very pleased when we take the initiative to honor one another and show humility.

Jesus took the message to everyone, especially the humble; he didn't hesitate, wondering whether they deserved it or not. We must do the same: take the message to all kinds of people, because we must give them the opportunity to know Jehovah and receive his blessings, and that is something we must keep firmly in mind.
We should follow his example in the congregation, in how we treat our brothers and friends. As Philippians 2:3 says, we should do nothing motivated by a self-centered spirit, but rather consider others as more important than ourselves, regardless of our responsibilities or abilities.
We imitate him not only in our preaching, but also in our manner of doing so. Furthermore, by using expressions such as “the Bible has taught me,” we show that we are not superior to anyone, but that Jehovah and his Word are superior.
We can see an excellent example in the image of these sisters preaching inside a prison. They aren't thinking about what this person did to end up there, but rather focusing on how to help her, treating her with dignity and respect.

18. Why do you want to imitate Jehovah’s humility?
I want to imitate Jehovah’s humility, because in that way I will become a more approachable, reasonable, and patient person. I will treat others in a way that honors them, just as Jehovah does. Furthermore, every effort I make to imitate his humility makes me more precious in his eyes.

As Isaiah 43:4 says, Jehovah highly values those who love him, so every effort to be humble does not go unnoticed by him. This strengthens our relationship with him.
We have learned that by imitating Jehovah's humility, we can be adaptable, taking into account the needs and circumstances of both our brothers and those around us, as well as those to whom we preach.
