O Lord, what is man that you are mindful of him? (Psalm 144:3).

Jehovah does not look at outward appearances, but at what is in the heart, as he showed when he chose David because he valued spiritual things. Similarly, Jehovah shows his interest in us by giving us personalized counsel, knowing our qualities, and paying attention to our efforts. When we apply his counsel and see the good results, we become convinced that he knows us, loves us, and wants us to be his friends.

What might we ask ourselves?

We may wonder if Jehovah really notices us and is interested in our lives. If we feel unimportant, we might think that being friends with the Creator of the universe is beyond our reach. Perhaps that is what King David thought, for he was very surprised that Jehovah would notice mere humans. That is why he asked: “O Jehovah, what is man that you take notice of him, the son of mortal man that you pay attention to him?”

According to 1 Samuel 16:6, 7, 10-12, what does Jehovah look at?

Jehovah does not look at a person's appearance or position, but at what is in their heart. The Bible shows us that he pays attention to those who may seem insignificant. That is why he chose David, the youngest of Jesse's sons, because he saw that he was a young man who greatly valued spiritual things.

Why can you be sure that Jehovah is interested in you?

We can be sure because Jehovah knows us very well, gives us advice tailored to our needs, and notices our efforts and good qualities. Furthermore, when we put his advice into practice and see the good results, we become convinced that he cares about us and wants us to be his friends.
