“Jehovah makes a covenant with David” (10 min.)

To talk about the point of Treasures of the Bible with the title: «Jehovah makes a covenant with David». We're going to use something strange for a speech as a reference. We do not mean to use one of the songs that we have in the JW Library app. I don't know if you have heard the title of the song is «Mi amor».

Where it refers, how parents say what they feel for a child, for their son and how they are willing to protect them and of course, to help them achieve Jehovah's approval. In this song a mother tells her son that I want to see him happy, that she will always protect him. And that is what Jehovah has to do with King David here.

He loved him deeply like very few people. For that reason, when she conveyed the truth of what would happen to him as time passed. They must have been words that made David think deeply about how much love Jehovah had for him.

LET'S READ: 2 Samuel 7:11,12.

11 From the day that I appointed judges over my people Israel. And I will give you rest from all your enemies. Furthermore, Jehovah has told you that Jehovah will make a house for you. 12 When your days come to an end and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up after you your offspring, your own son, and I will firmly establish his kingdom.

With these words Jehovah shows him how much he loved him, how much he appreciated him. He knew that he was a man of good feelings, with mistakes, it is true, but with a heart willing to do everything possible to show Jehovah that he loved him deeply. Well, here he is clearly referring to the son that David was going to have with Bathsheba, who would become Solomon and he would build it. A wonderful temple that was recorded in the history of the Bible.

LET'S READ: 2 Samuel 7:13,14.

13 He is the one who will build a house for my name, and I will firmly establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be his father and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will rebuke him with the rod of men and with the blows of the sons of men.

Well, here he is clearly referring to the son that David was going to have with Bathsheba, who would become Solomon and he would build it. A wonderful temple that was recorded in the history of the Bible. But he was not referring to that offspring, because sooner or later Solomon would also have to die. 

LET'S READ: Hebrews 1:5.

5 For example, to which angel did God ever say, “You are my son; today I have become your father”? Or also: “I will be his father and he will be my son”?

In this text he is clearly saying who he is referring to with a special love. He was an angel referring to the Lord Jesus Christ. And to corroborate this, when the birth of Jesus was announced in Luke 1:32,33. Jehovah commanded to say that the throne of David his father will be given to that child, and he will reign forever, and that of his kingdom there will be no end. Therefore, the covenant that Jehovah made with David had to do with the Lord Jesus Christ.

These are things that had to unfold little by little, like going back to the song that I mention and I recommend you listen to on Jw Library if you haven't seen it yet, the title of the song is "Mi amor". There it is mentioned how the child when he grew up was going to have the development of the knowledge of Jehovah. At first it was not known who that offspring was. One could suspect many sons or many kings who would come after David.

But here it is clearly being indicated that it had to do with the Lord Jesus Christ. What things would be achieved thanks to Jesus becoming that main part of the covenant with David?

LET'S READ: 2 Samuel 7:15,16.

15 I will not withdraw my loyal love from him, as I withdrew it from Saul, whom I took from before you. 16 Your house and your kingdom will stand forever before you; your throne will be firmly established forever.

What guarantee is Jehovah making here with David? This was a clear demonstration of the meaning of the name David which means "Beloved". And it is that the love that was earned from Jehovah allowed humanity to also benefit. How was it possible that David's throne could stand forever?

LET'S READ: Hebrews 1:8.

8 But of the Son it says: “God is your throne forever and ever, and the scepter of your Kingdom is the scepter of righteousness.

The fulfillment of this pact or promise of Jehovah to David benefits us without having met this biblical character. And it is that thanks to Jesus coming to reign as the promised Messiah, we would have unbeatable blessings. As the song "My love" says. There is expressed the desire of the parents that the child will soon be able to live in a world without pain, without fear, and that the child will be able to play with tigers and bears, because he has promised Jehovah so.

Without a doubt, that promise of God that was made to David also touches us. We benefit because thanks to the reign of Jesus we have hope of better things. And in this song it indicates that we only have to wait a little longer, that Jehovah will fulfill it and that everyone, children, young people, adults, old people, will all enjoy that blessing that is achieved through Jehovah's covenant with David. , and we are fully sure that this will be a reality.

LET'S READ: Psalm 89:35,37.

35 In my holiness I have sworn once for all; I'm not going to lie to David. 36 his offspring will last forever, his throne will last as long as the sun before me. 37 Just like the moon, he will be firmly established forever as a faithful witness in the heavens.”

As our activity guide indicates, the sun and the moon mentioned in this psalm remind us of the permanence of the Messiah's government. Whenever you see them, think of Jehovah's blessings that you and your family will receive because of the Kingdom. Like these parents in the song "Mi amor", who are interested in their son growing up healthy, strong and living forever. Jehovah wants the same for us, thanks to that pact that was made with the beloved, with David.

We benefit and we can feel the deep love of both Jehovah and the Messiah Jesus Christ, beings who really, without deserving us, love us deeply without deserving us, love us deeply and want us to live forever under their protection, under their loving care.
