“Jehovah is a just God” (10 min.)

Has it ever happened to you that someone has formed a wrong opinion of you, perhaps questioning your actions or motives without having sufficient elements of judgment, if so, surely you felt hurt, which is understandable, this teaches us an important lesson, it is unwise to rush into draw conclusions if all the facts are not known.

The Bible always speaks that Jehovah is just and in this speech we are going to see a landscape that clearly demonstrates Jehovah's injustice if we make a little history when Israel arrived at the Promised Land Joshua made a pact with the Gibeonites in which He told them that they would never make war against them. This pact was kept until the time Saul became king.

LET'S READ: 2 Samuel 21:1,2.

1 Now there came to be a famine in the days of David, for three years, year after year; and David proceeded to consult the face of Jehovah. Then Jehovah said: “On Saul and on his house there is bloodguilt, because he slew the Gibeonites.” 2 So the king called the Gibeonites and spoke to them. (By the way, the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; and the children of Israel themselves had sworn to them, but Saul sought to overthrow them out of jealousy for the children of Israel and Judah.)

The Gibeonites were not from the Israelites but from the Amorites that remained, the Israelites had sworn to leave them alive, but Saul tried to kill them because of the fervor he felt for the people of Israel and Judah, how do we see that pact was overlooked, what does it have to see this now with Jehovah since it was Saul who broke the covenant.

If we notice Israel was the people of God so they were representatives on earth therefore the fact that Jehovah did not do justice would show that he was approving what Saul was doing by ignoring the covenant, Jehovah showed that he did not agree with what Saul had done that is why when David was king Jehovah sent a famine that lasted three years.

David came to the conclusion that this was happening because Jehovah had not approved the injustice that was committed against the Gibeonites, how could David remedy the mistake by following the same laws that Jehovah had set.

LET'S READ: Numbers 35:31,33.

31 They must not accept any ransom for the life of a murderer who deserves to die, because he must die without fail. 32 And you must not accept for someone who has fled to the city of refuge any ransom that will enable him to return to live in his land before the death of the high priest. 33 “You must not pollute the land on which you live, because blood pollutes the land, and there can be no atonement for blood that has been shed on the land except with the blood of the one who shed it.

There it says they should not accept any ransom for the life of a murderer who deserves to die so to show that Jehovah was just you could not compensate or give gold for the life of the Gibeonites who had died.

So, how could the error that Saul had made be remedied according to the text that we just read, since the death of the murderer was required, but if we take into account that Saul had already died, what was the decision that the Gibeonites made, they had not killed any descendants? of Saul because there was no legal authorization.

LET'S READ: 2 Samuel 21:5,6.

5 Therefore they said to the king: “The man who exterminated us and who plotted to annihilate us so that we would not survive in any part of the territory of Israel…, 6 let seven men of his sons be given to us; and we will have to expose them to Jehovah in Gibeah of Saul, the chosen one of Jehovah.” Accordingly, the king said: "I myself will give them."

The Gibeonites demanded the following they told the king that man exterminated our people and planned to eliminate them completely from the territory of Israel so we want them to give us seven of their sons we will hang their corpse before Jehovah in Gibea of ​​Saul the chosen one of Jehovah the king said I will hand them over.

What do you think about the decision that was carried out, perhaps it would not be something unfair that people who were not Saul died because of the mistake made by him, as we said before, we must know all the details, therefore, the blood guilt was on both Saul and on his house indicates that it is likely that Saul took the lead in the murderous action and his sons may have participated directly or indirectly.

Then this would not be an unjust act this would not be a case in which the children died for the sins of their father but of administration of retributive justice in harmony with the law that soul shall be for soul what does this teach us that Jehovah is always just and that anyone who acts unjustly or does justice to his people Jehovah will bring to justice.

How we should react when injustice is done to us we can follow the example of the Gibeonites they did not do justice by their own hands they expected a legal method from it they expected a legal method.

Beloved do not take revenge but give way to anger because it is written vengeance is mine I will give you what you deserve says Jehovah rather if your enemy is hungry feed him if he is thirsty give him something to drink because by doing this you will heap burning embers on his head no Let yourself be overcome by evil, continue to overcome evil with good, so we do hope in Jehovah because he will bring justice since one of his greatest qualities is to be fair.
