Jehovah called them from darkness to his marvelous light (1 Pet. 2:9).

A way to demonstrate our love for the truth is by frequently studying the Bible and our publications. At the end of the day, no matter how much time we have in the truth, there are always things to learn. To study, we must make an effort, but it is worth doing it. Not everyone likes to read and study, but Jehovah asks us to continue seeking his knowledge with the goal of better understanding the truth (Prov. 2: 4-6). If we do it with commitment, we will always win. A brother called Corey says that, when he reads the Bible, he focuses on a single verse at a time. He explains: “I read the notes at the bottom of the page, I look for marginal references and I start investigating. […] Así le sac el yogo a mi lectura”. If we use this method or not, if we dedicate time and effort to studying the Bible, we demonstrate that we value the truth (Ps. 1:1-3). w22.08 17 par. 13; 18, 19 pars. 15, 16.

How did I enlighten Mayli to the truth of the Bible?

To highlight the value of truth, the Bible compares it to a lamp that shines in the dark (Ps. 119:105; Ephes. 5:8). Mayli, from Azerbaijan, is very grateful that the light of the Word of God has illuminated her path. In her family, two religions were practiced: her father was Muslim and her mother was Jewish. Mayli says: “she didn't doubt the existence of God, but there were things she didn't understand. She asked me: 'Why did you believe us? What sense does it make for someone to suffer their whole life and be tormented in hell? People say that everything that happens is the will of God, and that made me think: 'Will we be puppets in God's hands? ¿Disfrutará viéndonos sufrir?'”.

Mayli continued looking for the answer to her questions. Later, he accepted a biblical course and became the witness of Jehovah. He says: “Thanks to the crushing logic of the Bible, now I see life with other eyes and I have peace.” Like Mayli, all of us who serve Jehovah praise him because he “called us out of darkness into his marvelous light” (1 Pet. 2:9).

What can we do to love the truth more? (See also the indent “Other comparisons”).

The comparisons we have seen in these paragraphs highlight the value of truth. I'm sure they'll come to us in the mind of many others. Why don't we set ourselves the goal of finding out other reasons to love the truth? The more we love the truth, the more we will show the love we feel for it.

What does it mean to live the truth? (Santiago 1:25).

Of course, studying the truth is not the whole story. To make the most of it, we must live the truth, and that is, put into practice what we have learned. Only then will the truth make us completely happy (read Santiago 1:25). How can we make sure we are living the truth? A brother says that we can examine ourselves to see what things we are doing well and how we can improve. The apostle Pablo explained it this way: “No matter how much we progress, let us continue walking correctly along this same path” (Phil. 3:16).

Why are we trying our best to continue “walking in the truth”?

Let us think about all the good things that happened when we strived to the fullest to continue “walking in the truth”. On the ground our life improves, as we also rejoice the heart of Jehovah and that of our Christian brothers (Prov. 27:11; 3 Juan 4). There are no better reasons to love the truth and live the truth!
