“There is more happiness in giving than in receiving” (ACTS 20:35).
1. How did the apostle Paul feel about ministerial servants?
The apostle Paul had a deep appreciation and respect for ministerial servants, recognizing their important work within the congregations. In his letter to the Philippians, he specifically mentions them along with the elders, highlighting their role in the spiritual strengthening of Christians.
Philippians 1:1 evidences this feeling, since Paul highlights the ministerial servants alongside the elders. The ministerial servants not only helped the elders with administrative tasks, but their willingness to collaborate reflected a spirit of humility and service. This made them an essential part of the proper functioning of the congregation.
2. What does Luis think about his responsibility as a ministerial servant?
Luis, considers that being a ministerial servant is a great honor. For him, this responsibility is not only a duty, but a show of affection on the part of the congregation. This attitude demonstrates humility and appreciation for the privilege of working for the benefit of the congregation.
Luis is also an example of how age does not matter when accepting this responsibility. Both young and old can contribute significantly, as long as they have the willingness to serve and the desire to care for the congregation. This spirit of service reinforces unity and love within Jehovah's people, as seen throughout the organization.
3. What questions will we answer in this article?
This article will answer three important questions for baptized men who are not yet ministerial servants.
The first is whether they could set themselves the goal of doing so.
The second addresses what your motivation should be to pursue this goal, highlighting the importance of a correct desire.
Finally, the biblical requirements that must be met to be considered suitable for this responsibility will be analyzed.
WHAT IS THE FUNCTION OF A MINISTERIAL SERVANT?
4. What is the function of a ministerial servant? (See also the image).
A ministerial servant fulfills a vital role in the congregation, taking care of practical tasks that allow elders to focus on caring for spiritual needs. For example, organizing territories for preaching ensures that the Kingdom message is carried effectively.
Keeping the Kingdom Hall clean and functional demonstrates respect for the place of worship. Additionally, by handling audiovisual equipment or serving as ushers, they help ensure meetings run smoothly. However, as Matthew 22:37-39 mentions, beyond their practical responsibilities, ministerial servants are spiritual men who reflect love for Jehovah and their brothers.

Images of ministerial servants helping in the congregation: 1. A brother places the publications. 2. Another cleans the toilet. 3. Another receives those who arrive at the meeting. 4. Another manages the audio and video equipment at the Kingdom Hall.
Ministerial servants imitate Jesus by serving others in different ways. (See paragraph 4).
5. How can the goal of being a ministerial servant be achieved?
To achieve the goal of being a ministerial servant, it is essential to meet the requirements mentioned in the Bible, specifically in 1 Timothy 3:8-10, 12, 13. These include qualities such as seriousness, honesty, being a faithful man and handle family affairs well. To achieve this, the first step is to study these requirements and work hard to develop them in daily life.
However, before starting this process, it is important to analyze what your personal motivations are. The goal should be based on the desire to serve Jehovah and help others, not on the search for prestige or recognition within the congregation.
WHAT SHOULD YOUR MOTIVATION BE?
6. What should be the reason to humbly serve the brothers? (Matthew 20:28; see also image).
Jesus Christ is the best example of service motivated by love. As recounted in Matthew 20:28, Jesus served humbly and gave his life for the benefit of humanity. Furthermore, in John 13:5, 14, 15, we see how he even performed simple tasks, such as washing his disciples' feet, teaching that no service is insignificant when done in love.
For those who aspire to be ministerial servants, this example is a clear guide; Love for Jehovah and brothers must be the driving force of your service. By acting out of love, they reflect the qualities of Jesus and receive the blessing of Jehovah, who appreciates actions performed with a selfless and humble attitude.

By his example, Jesus teaches his apostles to humbly serve others instead of trying to excel. (See paragraph 6).
7. Why should a brother avoid selfish ambition?
Selfish ambition is incompatible with Christian service, because it contradicts the principles of love and humility. Jesus never sought power or authority for his own benefit, and his example demonstrates that serving others requires a selfless attitude.
In John 10:12, it is mentioned that a “hired man” does not really care about the sheep, showing that those who act out of self-interest do not have the disposition to lovingly care for their brothers.
Jehovah's organization values those who are motivated by love, not by a desire to excel. 1 Corinthians 13:4, 5 emphasizes that love is not prideful or selfish.
8. What did Jesus say to his apostles?
Jesús made it clear that leadership in his organization is based on humility and service. James and John demonstrated ambition by asking for a special position in the Kingdom, but Jesus used that situation to teach all the apostles an essential principle: true greatness lies in serving others with love and sacrifice.
The apostle Paul exemplified this attitude in 1 Thessalonians 2:8, where he showed how genuine love for his brothers motivated him to give the best of himself, including his life. This principle is also reflected in how elders and ministerial servants are to undertake their responsibilities in the congregation, not to gain recognition, but to serve with love and humility.
HOW CAN YOU FEED YOUR DESIRE TO SERVE OTHERS?
9. How can you feed your desire to serve others?
Meditating on your love for Jehovah and your brothers, and on the example of other ministerial servants, can help you strengthen your desire to serve. Praying for spiritual guidance and support is also key to developing this motivation.
The desire to do more in the congregation can grow as we remember the example of Jesus, who found immense happiness in serving others. Acts 20:35 highlights that true happiness comes from giving, this was a lesson that Jesus lived fully. Service not only benefits those who receive it, but also enriches the life of those who provide it.
10. How did Jesus demonstrate that serving others made him happy? (Mark 6:31-34).
The example of Jesus in Mark 6:31-34 highlights how his main motivation for serving was not duty, but love for people. Although his initial desire was to rest with his apostles due to fatigue, when he saw the need of the crowd, he not only agreed, but also dedicated himself to teaching them.
Jesus showed that selfless service is a source of true satisfaction and joy. Jesus did not see service as a burden, but as an opportunity to express his love for humanity. For him, serving was not something he had to do, but something that really motivated him to keep going, showing the deep love he felt for people.
11. In what practical ways did Jesus help his listeners? (See also the image).
Jesus' ministry was focused on both the spiritual and physical needs of people. In the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes, Jesus practically demonstrated how to serve others. Although he was the one who performed the miracle, he invited his disciples to be part of the process, showing them the importance of collaborating in meeting the needs of others. This act of kindness taught the apostles that service is not only a matter of preaching and teaching, but also of helping in tangible ways. Jesus dedicated his entire life to this type of service: preaching, healing and helping in practical ways.

If you love Jehovah and desire to serve others, you will do whatever is necessary to help within the congregation. (See paragraph 11).
12. Why shouldn't we believe that we have nothing to offer the congregation?
It is understandable that some may feel insecure about their abilities or talents to serve in the congregation. However, the teaching that the Bible gives us helps us see that each of us has a unique and essential role.
1 Corinthians 12:12-30, Paul explains that although we do not all perform the same functions, each part of the body has a valuable purpose. Just as no part of the human body can be underestimated, we should not believe that our contribution to the congregation is insignificant. Although we may not yet have the requirements to be ministerial servants, what matters is our willingness and effort.
13. What should we remember about the requirements to receive an appointment?
We must remember that all Christians must meet most of the above requirements to be a ministerial servant. These requirements are: getting closer to Jehovah, experiencing the joy of giving to others, and being good examples of Christian living.
However, the man who wishes to receive more responsibilities must concentrate on certain specific aspects, such as his spiritual qualities and the continuous effort to meet the standards that Jehovah has established for his servants.
POINTS WHICH SHOULD BE WORKED ON
14. What does “be serious” mean? (1 Timothy 3:8-10, 12).
As mentioned in these verses, being “serious” means being respectable, dignified and honorable people. This does not imply that ministerial servants should lose their sense of humor, or not enjoy happy moments. However, it does imply that they must take all their responsibilities seriously and be trustworthy people, demonstrating commitment to their service to Jehovah. Being considered serious also means earning the respect of the congregation by acting with integrity and dedication.
15. What does it mean that they “should not be double-tongued” or “covet dishonest gain”?
The expression “double-tongued” indicates that servants must be people who keep their promises and keep their word. Furthermore, the warning to “not covet dishonest gain” reflects that your integrity must be evident both in your personal life and in your relationship with the congregation. This principle extends to all areas of his life, including financial affairs and the management of the congregation's resources.
16. a) What does it mean that “they should not [...] drink much wine”?
The fact that ministerial servants “should not [...] drink much wine” implies that they must maintain control over their actions and be responsible with their alcohol consumption. Abuse of wine or any other mind-altering substance can lead to inappropriate behavior, affecting your ability to serve Jehovah and care for your brothers.
It is essential that ministerial servants be guided by moderation and self-control in all areas of their lives. The ability to maintain a clear mind and a whole heart is essential to serving effectively in the congregation.
16. b) What does it mean to have “a clear conscience”?
Having “a clear conscience” implies more than just not doing evil; It also means living according to the principles that Jehovah has established in his word.
A person with a clear conscience feels confident that his actions, thoughts, and motivations are aligned with what Jehovah expects. This awareness is the product of a constant effort to stay away from sin, seek forgiveness when mistakes are made, and do the right thing at all times. A clear conscience is reflected in a peaceful life without regrets.
17. How is a brother's ability tested? (1 Timothy 3:10; see also image).
In this verse, the requirement that “his ability be tested first” is highlighted. This highlights the importance of demonstrating responsibility and maturity before receiving an appointment as a ministerial servant.
This process allows elders to observe whether a brother is able to handle organizational and spiritual tasks effectively. By carrying out the instructions of the elders, the brother shows his willingness to work as a team and his respect for divine guidelines. This approach ensures that future ministerial servants have developed the qualities necessary to serve Jehovah and the brothers effectively.
ILLUSTRATION

Elders can test the abilities of baptized brothers by giving them different tasks. (See paragraph 17).
18. What does it mean to be “free from accusation”?
1 Timothy 3:10 indicates that ministerial servants must be trustworthy men who do not give legitimate reasons to be accused of misconduct. Therefore, “being free from accusation” emphasizes the need for exemplary Christian conduct that reflects Jehovah's standards.
Although Christians may be subject to false accusations because of their faith, their lives should be a testimony to their integrity and faithfulness. Jesus warned, as mentioned in John 15:20, that his followers would be persecuted and misunderstood, but he also demonstrated that maintaining a clean reputation is possible by living in harmony with divine principles.
19. What does being “husbands of one wife” encompass?
The command to be “husbands of one wife” underscores the need for married ministerial servants to be exemplary in their marital relationship. This includes respecting the institution of marriage as Jehovah established it, with one man and one woman.
Marital fidelity not only requires avoiding sexual immorality, as Hebrews 13:4 highlights, but also being loyal. Loyalty is reflected in the Christian husband's willingness to protect his marriage. By avoiding compromising situations or attitudes that give rise to jealousy or suspicion, always staying under Jehovah's rules.
20. How does a man run his house well?
Running a home well is much more than simply providing material needs. It involves leading with love, balance and firmness in spiritual and emotional aspects. A good head of the family organizes family worship. Through preaching together, you strengthen your household's faith and reinforce the sense of unity to Jehovah. Additionally, she cares about the spiritual development of her children, helping them cultivate a personal love for Jehovah and a deep respect for his principles.
Ephesians 6:4 points out that this leadership fosters trust and respect within the home, which in turn is an indication that the man can wisely care for the congregation.
21. What can you do if you are not yet a ministerial servant?
Becoming a ministerial servant is a process that requires effort and dedication. Some brothers have found it helpful to set specific goals for achieving the appointment, such as improving their participation in preaching, deepening their Bible studies, or working on a particular quality. This practical approach, along with prayer and guidance from Jehovah, has helped many to progress spiritually and enjoy the joy of serving the congregation.
WHAT DO WE LEARN FROM...
... Mateo 20:28?
We learn that we should imitate Jesus, who came, not to be served, but to serve and give his life as a ransom for many. This highlights the importance of having an attitude of selfless service toward others in the congregation.
... Marcos 6:31-34?
Jesus showed compassion by caring for both the physical and spiritual needs of people. This teaches us to balance our responsibilities and priorities, making sure to show empathy and care for others.
... 1 Timothy 3:8-10, 12?
We learn that ministerial servants must be serious, sincere, and honest. They must have a clear conscience and be examples of integrity in their personal lives, showing that they are fit to assume responsibilities in the congregation.
