“Happy is the people who have Jehovah as their God!” (10 min.)
Have you ever noticed how a sincere smile brightens your face and can even improve your mood?
And happiness is like a balm for the soul, something refreshing, right? And not only that, scientific studies have shown that joy has benefits for our physical health. Among these benefits is the strengthening of the immune system, so our defenses against diseases are strengthened.
It is also said that stress is reduced in the stage of joy, or sleep improves, is deeper and more restful. It increases our energy, gives that feeling of vitality. It can even give greater longevity, since it is said that people who have that positive and happy attitude tend to live longer, and it improves social relationships and many other beneficial aspects.
How many advantages does being happy give us? Truly, it is a wonderful gift from our Creator. Well, today we will talk about a happiness that goes far beyond a simple passing feeling. It is the happiness that comes from having a close relationship with Jehovah God, and that is what we are going to talk about in this section of Treasures of the Bible, with the title: “Happy are the people who have Jehovah as their God.” Where does this expression come from?
LET'S READ PSALM 144:15
Happy the people for whom this is so! Happy are the people who have Jehovah as their God!
Beautiful words said by David, but what was the reason for this happiness? If we see in the previous verses, for example verse 11, he is talking about asking Jehovah to rescue him and save him from the wicked, and Jehovah did so. Then in 12 it is said that the children of the Israelites are compared to tender plants that grow quickly and to angular columns carved for a palace. Then, of the blessings of having plenty of food and enough food for all the people. That is why he says: “Happy is the people who have Jehovah as their God.”
And Jehovah continues to do the same thing with his servants today, blessing them. It's like thinking of a blooming garden. Plants grow strong and beautiful because they receive sunlight and the necessary water. Similarly, when we trust in Jehovah, it is as if we are receiving the light of the spiritual Sun and the water of truth.
He blesses us with everything we need to be happy. It protects us from spiritual and emotional dangers, it is like a shield that protects us from the storms of life. And what can we say about it providing us with everything we need, not only materially, but also abundantly in a spiritual sense.
The peace we receive from Jehovah surpasses all understanding, we know that we are in his hands and that calms our hearts. That's why we are happy. A second aspect is that our hope fills us with joy.
LET'S READ PSALM 146:5
Happy is he who has the God of Jacob as his help, who puts his hope in Jehovah his God.
The hope in the future that Jehovah promises us is like a powerful engine of joy that pushes us to move forward despite the bad situations we face in this world, like anyone else.
When one thinks of the new world, where there will be no more suffering or disease, doesn't it fill us with joy? We feel full of excitement.
Let's think about some of these hopes that Jehovah gives us. For example, eternal life. Doesn't the promise of living forever in an earthly paradise fill you with joy? That is more than enough reason to be happy, to, despite the situations we face, move forward, knowing that, having Jehovah's approval, everything bad that we experience today will become eternal happiness.
Another hope that is presented to us is that of the resurrection. That hope of seeing our loved ones resurrected, being with us again, seeing them, feeling them, hugging them, loving them, that fills us with comfort and joy. And what about having a life with purpose?
When one serves Jehovah and helps others to know him, it gives us a purpose in life, it makes us happy to see how other people take Jehovah's side and are also happy, because now they understand why the situation is so bad in our lives. days, and how very soon this will turn into peace, into joy, indefinitely. And let's look at the third point. Those who serve Jehovah will be happy forever.
LET'S READ PSALM 146:10
The Lord will be King forever, your God, O Zion, generation after generation. Praise Jah!
As we can see in the text, Jehovah will be king forever. Therefore, the happiness we experience in serving Jehovah is not temporary, it is not fleeting, it is eternal.
It is a treasure that no one can take away from us, it is an indescribable feeling. Because? Because, by serving God, this gives us deep satisfaction that goes beyond any passing pleasure.
When one experiences happiness today, it may be for moments that only last minutes, maybe seconds, possibly one or two days, but in the long run they disappear or are replaced with sad or worrying moments of daily life. But serving Jehovah is our eternal happiness.
And what to think of the friendship we gain by serving Jehovah? That Christian brotherhood is an inexhaustible source of support and love. Brothers who worry about us just by seeing us, our countenance, our face, slightly deteriorates, and they are immediately there trying to ask what is happening to us, how they can help us. And sometimes they don't even ask us, but rather act.
And how much happiness it makes us to have Jehovah's approval, to know that this is the greatest happiness we can experience. It's like the combined image we have in our Activity Guide.
People of all ages, from the smallest to the oldest person, feel the happiness that comes from our relationship with Jehovah. And we all realize that it is much more than a simple passing feeling, it is a state of well-being that is reflected in all aspects of our lives.
So, just as a smile illuminates the face, spiritual happiness fills us with inner light and allows us to face life's challenges with a positive attitude. So let us continue to cultivate our relationship with Jehovah, trusting in his beautiful promises, in his beautiful hopes that he gives us, and serving him with joy.
And that will be reflected in our spiritual defenses, in being more willing to endure any challenge that comes our way, to demonstrate a precious attitude before our brothers, before the people to whom we speak the truth, people who must also be happy thanks to that message of the good news of the Kingdom.
So let us continue to cultivate our relationship with Jehovah, trusting in his promises and serving him with joy, because we are truly happy, very happy to have Jehovah as our God.
