Show that you trust in Jehovah (10 mins.)

In our times, trust has become rare. People distrust their rulers, institutions, their neighbors and even their own family. But who can we fully trust? For Christians, the answer is clear: in Jehovah God. He is worthy of all our trust. However, this trust does not emerge overnight, we need to cultivate it and demonstrate it in our daily actions. And that is what we are going to talk about in this section of Bible Treasures, with the title “Show that you trust in Jehovah.” Let's discuss three important points during this speech.

Trust in Jehovah and not in yourself.

 LET'S READ PROVERBS 3:5

Trust in Jehovah with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.

In this short verse we are invited to place all our trust in Jehovah. That is a way of recognizing that their wisdom is superior to ours, and following it, of course, will bring good results. However, trusting in Jehovah with all your heart, as the biblical text says, involves more than a simple feeling; It is a decision to align our thoughts, our emotions and actions with the will of God, and that takes time. This means recognizing that Jehovah knows what is best for us, even when we do not fully understand his decisions, his will.

Let's take a practical example to understand it: imagine a sister who is looking for a job. She might think: “I have a lot of experience and a good resume, I'm sure I can find something quickly.” However, in Proverbs 3:5 he encouraged us not to trust in ourselves, in our abilities, but rather the right thing to do would be to pray to Jehovah and ask for his guidance. Perhaps it will help us make a very important decision so that this work brings us closer to our spiritual goals, instead of distancing us from them. When we trust in Jehovah and turn to Him, we demonstrate humility and recognize that He knows what is best for us.

Show your trust in Jehovah by seeking his guidance and following his advice

LET'S READ PROVERBS 3:6

Consider him in all your ways, and he will make your paths straight.

This verse encourages us to seek Jehovah's guidance in every aspect of our lives. The text said “in all your ways,” from the smallest decisions to the most important ones. And how do we take Jehovah into account in all our ways? For example, praying to him continually, studying his word and following the advice he gives us through his organization. When we do so, we are showing that we trust that Jehovah will guide us along the best path, as the biblical text said: he will make our paths straight, our path.

Let's take an example here: let's think about a young brother who is thinking about moving to another city to study or work. You could have many options and not know which one to choose. Now, instead of relying solely on his own desires, goals, or the advice of friends, Proverbs 3:6 encouraged us to pray to Jehovah and seek his guidance in the Bible and the organization's publications. Perhaps you will find an article that talks about the benefits of serving where the need is greatest. And you could do two things: work, get your money to survive and also help brothers in that sector who need preachers so much. When he follows Jehovah's guidance, this young man will show that he trusts that Jehovah knows what is best for his future and will allow himself to be guided, as if his path is straightened in the direction that Jehovah wants him to follow.

Don't be too confident in your skills or knowledge.

 LET'S READ PROVERBS 3:7

Do not become wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and stay away from evil.

We all recognize that we have certain skills or excel in certain knowledge, and the text is very clear: do not rely too much on them when making decisions. Again, we are encouraged to recognize our need to turn to Jehovah for guidance. And the thing is, when one has certain outstanding skills or knowledge in something in particular, we could fall into the trap of thinking that we already know everything, that we can handle the situation so easily. But let's remember that our wisdom is limited and we can make mistakes. Therefore, it is essential to maintain a humble attitude and seek Jehovah's guidance at all times, recognizing that his wisdom is infinite.

Interestingly, our spiritual progress is not seen by self-confidence, but rather by following Jehovah's guidance. And it is noticeable when a Christian comes to Jehovah despite his good preparation in any sense. Let's take another example here: a congregation elder has many years of experience and has made many important decisions that have turned out well. Maybe you might think, “I already know how to handle this situation, I don't need to ask for advice, I don't need to review any instructions on how to do this because I've already tried it on several occasions.” However, Proverbs 3:7 reminded us not to rely too much on our own wisdom, but to seek guidance from Jehovah through prayer and the Bible. When he does so, the elder will demonstrate humility and recognize that Jehovah's wisdom is superior to his own.

What a good example we are given in the image of the activity guide, where we see a sister who must make important decisions in her life. Of course, what you are doing takes time: researching various articles and various publications that come from Jehovah's organization. And that is where we must ask ourselves: Do I ask Jehovah to guide me in everything I do? 

How beautiful it is to know that Jehovah is willing to help us if we trust in Him and that through the organization he expresses that desire to provide the necessary help. Actually, although trust is weakening in this world, it is different from the trust we feel in Jehovah, which must be strengthened every day, which shows that it is a fundamental pillar of our faith.

By trusting Him with all our hearts, seeking His guidance and not trusting ourselves too much, we show that we value His wisdom and love, and we will allow Him to guide every step of our lives, because He has shown us how much He loves us and how much wisdom He has.
