1. How does commemorating the death of Jesus every year benefit us?

We can have a close friendship with Jehovah and the opportunity to live forever.

Commemorating it every year allows us to remember the importance of the rescue. It keeps us grateful for this sacrifice and, without a doubt, also strengthens our friendship with Jehovah.

As 2 Corinthians 9:15 says, it is an indescribable gift, because because Jesus gave his life, we can now enjoy a close relationship with Jehovah and the opportunity to live forever.

This indescribable gift mentioned in 2 Corinthians 9:15 consists of all the things that Jehovah gives us out of his goodness and loyal love, thanks to that sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for us, which is something indescribable, because we cannot describe it.

2. What will we see in this article?

In this article we will see what the rescue teaches us about Jehovah and Jesus, and how to meditate on this date and event as important as the commemoration. “Meditate” means having the ability to think carefully about something to understand it better and learn more details.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

In view of the importance of this event, we are encouraged, as the paragraph says, to meditate on what Jehovah and Jesus did for us. The expression “meditate” is not simply thinking, but thinking carefully. So that? To better understand a matter and understand all the details.

As we have to meditate on that great sacrifice that both Jehovah and Jesus made, the organization, through the daily text, starting on the 8th, already gives us background to meditate on what we are going to do on the 12th. And although we have the commemoration on the 12th, it does not end there, because it concludes on the 15th. In other words, we also have to consider the 13th, the 14th and the 15th. So we have many days to meditate on that great sacrifice. of Christ Jesus.

WHAT THE RESCUE TEACHES US ABOUT JEHOVAH

3. How could the death of a single man rescue millions of people? (See also images).

The apostle Paul explained it this way: “Just as many became sinners through the disobedience of one man [Adam], so many will become righteous through the obedience of one person [Jesus].”

In other words, if all human beings became slaves to sin and death because a single perfect man disobeyed God, then to free us, it was enough for a single perfect man to obey.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

As Romans 5:12 says, just as through the fault of one man, Adam, we inherited sin and death, only by surrendering the perfect life of Jesus have we been rescued.

In 1 Timothy 2:6 it makes it clear, it says 'corresponding ransom'. So the rescue had to involve the life of someone who was completely like the first man, so it needed a perfect and obedient human being.

An important lesson we learn is that Jehovah deeply loves justice. As Deuteronomy 32:4 mentions, because he is the judge, the supreme king, the legislator, the one who sets the rules, the laws, and says what is good and what is wrong, yet, in this situation, he abides by his just rules. As we will see, he sends his son Jesus Christ, despite everything that was involved.

Romans 5:19 shows us the principle of compensation: Adam's disobedience affected everyone, but Jesus' obedience opened the door for many to be rescued.

The image we have for this paragraph is taken from the video 'Why did Jesus die?', where the comparison is made with that businessman who takes a company to bankruptcy and has to fire all the workers. Then, a generous businessman arrives who buys it and gives them that job again. This is how it looks like: when you lose a perfect life, you need another perfect life to cover that loss.

Also, through this beautiful image that we have, the great justice that Jehovah has is shown and emphasized, not only because a perfect man, Jesus, has been assigned to make up for the sin of the other perfect man, who was Adam, but also because Adam, through his disobedience, condemned all of humanity. But, at the same time, with the obedience and sacrifice of Jesus, all humanity has the possibility of restoring its friendship with Jehovah.

One man enslaved us to death and sin, and one man freed us. (See paragraph 3).

4. Why couldn't Jehovah simply let Adam's obedient descendants live forever?

It was not possible because Jehovah's justice is perfect. So He could not ignore Adam's terrible disobedience and pretend nothing had happened.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

From the imperfect point of view, this could have been a good solution. You might think, 'Well, Adam sinned, but his descendants wouldn't have to pay these consequences.' But we have to keep in mind that Jehovah's justice is perfect and that he could not ignore this terrible act that Adam committed.

It is very nice to know that quality of Jehovah, that he does not change his plans just because it would be easier. He is completely fair and applies justice even when it harms him.

This perfect righteousness helps us understand how Jesus was needed as the corresponding ransom. With a perfect man who was Adam, it was not necessary for God to come to give his life, but the correspondence was a perfect man for a perfect man.

5. Why can we be convinced that Jehovah will always do what is right?

Because Jehovah acted justly, even though that meant sacrificing his son, whom he loved so much. So we are convinced that He will always do what is right. Jehovah was able to rescue his son, but he was not fair.

For justice, which is one of Jehovah's characteristics, that was not possible. He had to give his life, just as Adam lost his. In this way, Jehovah's justice would allow all people to have the opportunity to live forever.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

Because Jehovah did not ignore his sense of justice, even though that meant sacrificing his son's life, something that would cause him great pain. That's why we know that he will always do what is right. If Jehovah had, in this case, allowed Adam's imperfect children to live forever, his justice would have been overlooked, and doubts might have arisen over time. For example, if he would ignore that sense of justice again in some other matter, such as keeping his promises.

This also helps us understand why Jehovah had no other options, because his justice also included his own son. If Jehovah had any choice other than to send his own son to die here, he would have done it, because he would not have allowed Jesus to go through that, nor would he have let himself go through that.

6. How does the ransom help us see how much Jehovah loves us? (1 John 4:9, 10).

Jehovah sent his son to die for us because he wants us to live forever and also be part of his family. If Jehovah sent his spiritual son to rescue us from death, it is because Jehovah truly loves us too much.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

Jehovah was willing to give the life of his own son, and that was a sign of immense love for humanity, because Jehovah's purpose from the beginning was for humanity to be perfect and live forever. With the sacrifice of Jesus, that purpose will be fulfilled thanks to the love shown.

The idea that Jehovah wants us to be part of his family is very beautiful, and now we are not. Adam took that privilege from us, but, until that time comes, he has given us the ransom of his son, not only so that in the future we can become part of his family, but from today, we can become his friends. So, without a doubt, Jehovah shows us his love down to the smallest detail.

Another text that shows us that he loves us very much is John 3:16, which says: 'God so loved the world.' It is an expression that no parent could think of. We can reflect on that great love that Jehovah had when he gave his son. For this reason, we have to be very grateful and know that there is no greater act than that.

Another of the benefits or blessings that Jehovah gives us, thanks to his love and the rescue of his son, is that he forgives our sins and we can have a beautiful friendship with Him. We can enjoy having a friendship with Him and also with our brothers. So this shows the deep love that Jehovah has for us.

7. How does thinking about Jesus' suffering help us understand how much Jehovah loves us?

Because, being almighty, He could have prevented the mistreatment and subsequent death of His only begotten son. However, out of his justice and love for humanity, he refrained from punishing or ending the lives of the people who were martyring his beloved son.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

We see how Jehovah could have stopped his son's suffering at any time, but if he had, he would not have paid the ransom to humanity to have the hope of life that we have. That is why Jehovah allowed his son to suffer until his last breath, and that is what we must not forget: that he gave his life for us.

They even made a challenge almost to Jehovah, because they said: 'If you are a child of God, may he save you.' However, Jehovah could have intervened, seeing all the bad and terrible things that were being done to his son, but if he had intervened, what Jesus had come to earth to do would not have been fulfilled: rescue us and one day give us eternal life.

In Matthew 27 the sufferings that Jesus Christ went through are explained. If we now imagine Jehovah from heaven, seeing what they were doing with his own son, without a doubt, those who are parents know that it would take a lot of work not to act on his behalf to free him from that suffering. Jehovah was willing to endure that and more, getting to see him die for all humanity. So, without a doubt, it shows us the great love that Jehovah has for us.

Job 2:1-5 helps us understand why Jesus had to suffer. Because perhaps it could have been worth giving his life without having suffered; However, there was a universal issue: Satan said that humans would turn their backs on Jehovah if our health or well-being was at stake. He said: 'Skin for skin, a man will give everything he has to save his life.' That is why it was also necessary for Jesus to be pushed to the limit before giving his life, to prove that this is a lie.

8. Why do we know that Jehovah felt pain when he saw his Son suffer? (See also the image).

Jehovah created us with the ability to feel emotions, and since we were made in his image, it is evident that he is also capable of feeling those emotions. In fact, the Bible says that there were people who “hurt his feelings” and “made him sad.” Of course, we cannot even begin to imagine the immense sadness and pain he felt.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

We know this because Jehovah has created us in his image and likeness. So, if we feel pain and are also capable of suffering, Jehovah also has those emotions and also suffers. Several aspects or several facts are mentioned that demonstrate this. For example, Psalm 78 says that when people rebelled many times, they made Jehovah feel bad, and it also says that they hurt him and made him sad. So we know that Jehovah felt pain when he saw his son suffer, because he has emotions, he has feelings, and also, much more than us, because he is perfect.

In the story of Genesis 22:9-12 we see the example of Abraham, when he had to sacrifice his son. Surely he experienced very strong emotions, such as sadness, but at the same time the desire to please Jehovah. Surely Jehovah felt the same way about his son; He had to endure tremendous sadness and pain. But he allowed it because of the great love he has for us.

We cannot have the slightest idea of ​​what Jehovah suffered. The only one who could perhaps explain it better would be Abraham, who will realize the privilege he had of representing Jehovah himself. But, without a doubt, the strongest feeling is that: losing a child, just as Jehovah did. For that we should be very grateful.

Looking at the image, we observe that, unlike Abraham, who hoped to end his son's life quickly, Jehovah saw how Jesus suffered intensely: how they mistreated him, how they insulted him, and then how he suffered on the stake. So, if Abraham had to suffer enough, Jehovah, seeing everything Jesus went through, we cannot even imagine what he had to go through.

In the case of Abraham, it is also seen in the video and it is said here that he had a struggle, an emotional struggle within himself, because on the one hand he lost his son or, on the other, he disobeyed God. So there was an internal struggle, but not a struggle of doubts, because when the time came, I immediately knew what I was going to do; I was determined. This very well exemplifies what happened in the case of Jehovah. He knew everything that was involved, what was at stake for all humanity, for his name and for his own son, and he did not have a fight of doubts either. He knew what he had to do and he did it clearly.

In that story we see how Abraham never doubted Jehovah's justice, because, as Hebrews 11:17-19 says, Abraham was practically put to the test until he offered Isaac as a sacrifice. However, he knew that Jehovah was righteous and could raise him from the dead if necessary. We see how the emotions were very similar, but nevertheless, Jehovah, of course, suffered with his son what no father has suffered.

The example of Isaac is very beautiful, because at first he did not know what was happening, and in the end, when he understood, he realized that he was the sacrifice. He did not fight with his father; he was willing to give his life because he also had faith in Jehovah.

The video we have of Abraham, as an example of faith, makes us think about the special relationship that Jehovah had with Jesus, all the time they spent together and all those beautiful feelings between a father and a son. And now, by putting ourselves in Jehovah's shoes when he has to sacrifice his son, it undoubtedly helps us understand Jehovah's pain.

9. What does Romans 8:32, 38, 39 teach you about Jehovah's love for you and all his servants?

The rescue teaches us that no one loves us as much as Jehovah, not even our best friend or closest family member. In fact, Jehovah loves us more than we love ourselves. Think about this: do you want to live forever? Well, Jehovah wants even more for you to live forever. Do you want your sins to be forgiven? Well, Jehovah wants it even more. It is clear that both Jehovah and Jesus Christ love humanity very much.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

It teaches us a lot; Furthermore, it is a very important paragraph because it teaches us that Jehovah has a love for us that is outstanding, loyal, unconditional and eternal. Giving his own son as a sacrifice shows that he loves us more than we love ourselves, and it is a love that will never fail us.

In the Garden of Eden, when he created Adam and Eve, he intended that the entire earth would become full of happy humans who could enjoy the blessings that he had planned for them all. But, of course, Adam disobeyed, and Jehovah was not going to allow a human to ruin all the plans he had had for those future descendants. Therefore, in love for those descendants yet to be born, he arranged that, in time, all of humanity could benefit through the ransom of his son, Christ Jesus, that he would carry out in the future.

The idea that Jehovah loves us more than we will ever love ourselves is very powerful, worth meditating on. Because He is teaching us here in Romans that He has already given us the most precious thing, therefore, He is going to give us everything. And as long as we obey Him and have faith in Him, nothing will separate us from His love; That is what Jehovah is telling us. Also in Ecclesiastes he teaches us that not even in eternity will we fully understand that love. So, surely, Jehovah's love is something we should constantly meditate on.

What Jehovah asks of us is that we obey Him, that we have faith in Him, and in this way He gives us His love and affection. He already showed it to us by giving away his son. He wants us to be obedient to Him, and He forgives us all our faults and all our mistakes. He has shown us from the beginning the love he feels towards humanity, so we must reciprocate as He deserves.

This idea is very beautiful, since when we think about such a strong and lasting love, we may even be afraid, and we may find ourselves unable to reciprocate to Jehovah or we may think that we do not deserve it, which makes us limit ourselves or not move forward to give more to Jehovah. But what the paragraph says is very beautiful: He does not ask us to be perfect, he only asks that we accept the sacrifice and do everything possible to serve Him.

The love that Jehovah has for us is much more powerful and goes beyond any human relationship, as the paragraph says, than our best friends or our family members. But it is a love relationship that we know that, on our part, if we don't want it, it will never end. It is very good for us to meditate and reflect on this type of love, so that, as Romans 8:38 says, we become convinced.

WHAT THE RESCUE TEACHES US ABOUT JESUS

10. a) What was Jesus' most distressed before he died?

Jesus cared deeply about his Father's reputation. He was greatly distressed that being accused of blasphemy and sedition would disgrace his Father's name.

10. b) In what ways did Jesus vindicate Jehovah's name? (See also the box “The Integrity of Jesus Vindicated the Name of Jehovah.”)

Because he remained loyal until his death, Jesus was able to definitively vindicate Jehovah's name. Satan said that no one could do that, and a perfect man like Jesus could do it. But it has already been proven that on earth, even imperfect people can be faithful to Jehovah until death.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

We can see and realize that he remained faithful until death, but the image gives us a glimpse of what he suffered, that is, the anguish he had. But within that anguish, he did not do what he wanted, but rather put his decision in the hands of his Father, as if saying: 'Whatever you want, I will do it, I am having a hard time, but I will endure and move forward.'

One of the ways in which he vindicated Jehovah's name was precisely by demonstrating that Jehovah had not been to blame for Adam's sin. Satan even said that all human beings would fall away and be unfaithful. However, Jesus showed that no, that, despite temptations and even in the face of death, he remained faithful, and that showed that Satan was a liar.

The end of that box is very interesting because it explains that Jehovah was not to blame for Adam sinning. There are those who use the argument that Jehovah himself created evil. But Adam could decide to do the opposite, to have obeyed, just as Jesus did, who, being perfect, made the decision to be obedient.

11. How did Jesus show that he loved people deeply? (John 13:1).

However, Jesus did not fulfill his ministry out of a simple sense of commitment. That is, he didn't do it just because there was a plan in place. He put his whole heart into the work of preaching, teaching and helping others. Even on the day of his death, he took time to wash the feet of his apostles, encourage them, and teach them lessons. 

While he was on the stake, he gave hope to the criminal next to him and commissioned Juan to take care of his mother, María. That is to say, even after having suffered what he suffered, he still cared about people, like the evildoer who was next to him or like his mother, Mary.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

Even though Jesus knew he would go through difficult times and suffering on earth, he never stopped showing love to people. And he poured his heart into the work of preaching and helping others. Even on the day of his death, as we find in John 13:12-15, where we can read how he spent time washing their feet, encouraging and teaching his disciples.

We see how the act of washing the feet of his disciples was done on the same day he was going to die. Even when he was on the stake about to die, he was still concerned about others and showing them love. We also see it when he tells Juan to please take care of his mother, María. It is a show of love until the last moment and gives us the example of showing love and empathy to others, not only with words, but also with actions.

These details about Jesus show the extent to which he cared about people. We, human beings, usually, if we have a problem or a difficulty, we focus on our problem and are not there to think about anyone. If we have any circumstance, no matter how small, the first thing we do is take care of ourselves. We may think, 'Well, now is not the time to be worrying about anything,' but Jesus, in such a difficult situation (he was literally being killed), cared about others. That's what the rescue teaches us about Jesus: that he is a perfect king for us and that he genuinely cares about human beings.

We also see that, when he was on the stake, he had time to give hope to the criminal who was next to him. He could have thought about the intense pain he was in, that he had already done everything he could to heal others, to preach. However, until the last moment, he was talking about the Kingdom to others.

12. In what ways has Jesus continued to make sacrifices for us?

He is in charge of gathering the anointed and the great crowd, a task that will be completed before the end of the great tribulation. So Jesus continues to carry out a series of tasks for the benefit of humanity. He also ensures that his faithful servants are well-fed spiritually in these last days.

During his 1000 year reign, he will continue to work to help us. So not only did it help before, not only does it help in the present, but also, later, it will continue to help us in the work of the Kingdom of God.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

He is going to fulfill all of Jehovah's purposes, so he continues to work hard to give us everything he has promised us. He makes sure that we are well nourished spiritually and that we do not lack for anything. Furthermore, he is gathering all the anointed ones so that everything is ready before the great tribulation arrives.

In Ephesians 5:23 it says that Jesus is the head of the congregation, and that gives us great peace of mind, knowing that he is working so that all the congregations continue to function in the same direction. And that, if at any time there is something that is not in accordance with His will or things are not done as they should be done, knowing that Christ is the head of the congregation gives us the confidence to know that, in due time, at the ideal moment, Jesus Christ will take care of that matter.

Furthermore, as we have seen, he is currently working, but also during the thousand-year reign he will continue working to help us.

NEVER STOP LEARNING

13. How can meditation help you continue to learn more about the love that God and Christ have for us?

Perhaps you can read one or more gospels during this year's memorial season. This will help you meditate on the death of Jesus.

Try not to cover too much information at once, but instead slowly search for more reasons to love Jehovah and Jesus. In this way you will be able to meditate correctly about Jehovah and Jesus Christ. And don't forget: try to tell others what you discover.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

If we spend time and effort reading and reflecting on what Jehovah and Jesus have done for us, our friendship with them will be strengthened and our gratitude will increase. Especially before the commemoration, we can read one or more of the gospels.

Reading the Bible helps us know and respect Jehovah, but it is advisable to do so in moderation, so that it allows us to go deeper and reflect in search of more reasons to love Jehovah more. Because, as 1 Corinthians tells us, he has to reign until God has put all enemies under his feet.

Not only that the information benefits us, but also tell it to as many people as we can, especially now, taking advantage of the commemoration campaign.

Taking advantage of all the information in our publications is very important. If you encounter a Bible text that you do not understand, look up information and then throughout the day meditate on what you discovered and what you learned about Jehovah, his son, and their love for him.

We have to study and take advantage of all the information we have at our disposal. We know that it is a lot; On the website, in a lot of places, we have a lot of information from which we can discover things. And in the event that we find a text that we do not understand or that we have doubts, we can investigate it, dedicate time to it, see what we can learn again and meditate throughout the day on what we have learned and that we had not understood at another time, and thus be able to take advantage of all the information.

In the image we can see that the brother is already of a certain age, perhaps he has gone through many commemorations, but even so he is deepening and meditating on this sacrifice. Something that also draws a lot of attention is that it is in a relaxed and calm environment. We see that he has an infusion or a coffee and makes studying a pleasant habit, not something forced. That surely contributes a lot to making this meditation much easier for us.

What leads the brother in the image to delve deeper into that meditation, into that study, is gratitude for the rescue. That is the driving force that leads him to want to know more about Jehovah's personality, about what Jesus did and how it affects him. Therefore, no matter how many years you have been in the truth, no matter how many years you have read the gospels, you will undoubtedly be able to take advantage and learn new things each time.

The treasures we find in the Bible are much more valuable than gold. So, if people have patience to find gold, we have to have patience to search for spiritual treasures.

Because, just like many people spend days searching for gold, we must be patient and not stop studying the Bible, since we can find very valuable information.

If we want to enjoy the Law of Jehovah, we have to meditate on it, have a relaxed place and enjoy.

16. How can we imitate Jehovah and Jesus?

We can imitate Jehovah's justice by treating others fairly, and we can imitate the love that Jesus has for his Father and for people, being willing to suffer for the name of God and helping brothers, even if it means sacrifice, and preaching so that others have the opportunity to benefit from the extraordinary gift of the ransom.
