May “the lamp of the wicked” not dazzle you (10 mins.)

Today we gather to reflect on a warning full of love: that “the lamp of the wicked” does not dazzle us. Our theme invites us to look beyond the fleeting brilliance of this world and choose the light that comes from Jehovah.

On many occasions, life offers seductive glimpses. Music, laughter and promises of pleasure seem to illuminate a path without limits. But that glow can be as brief as the flame of a match.

LET'S READ PROVERBS 13:9

The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked will go out.

What lamp does the wise Solomon talk about? Of everything that the wicked trusts in to illuminate his path: unjust wealth, harmful pleasures, fleeting popularity. That dazzling lamp, sooner or later, goes out and leaves behind a dark void.

Imagine someone walking into the bustling night of an exclusive party. The music vibrates, the glasses clink and everyone seems to shine under colored lights. However, when the party is over, the room is left in darkness and the heart, often, too. The blow with reality can be devastating, like the man who only contemplates his empty glass and the medicine that does not calm his pain.

In contrast, the light of the righteous does not depend on human reflectors. It arises from his intimate relationship with Jehovah, a light that never runs out and that shines even in valleys of shadow.

LET'S READ PROVERBS 13:20

He who walks with the wise will become wise, but he who associates with the foolish will end badly.

The wicked, with their shining lamp, present disobedience as freedom and immorality as modernity. Their jokes trivialize sin and their pressure can break even the most determined. Let us remember the young woman who is mentioned in the references of The Watchtower, that sister who fell into immorality because she did not dare to contradict them. What a vivid lesson in the power of bad company.

Instead, walking with the wise means surrounding ourselves with those who love and respect divine standards. They encourage us to shine with a genuine and constant light.

LET'S READ PROVERBS 13:25

The righteous eat and satisfy their appetite, but the stomach of the wicked is empty.

We are not just talking about physical food, but about deep satisfaction. Those who serve Jehovah enjoy peace of mind, purpose, and lasting hope. Their homes are filled with edifying conversations, music that cheers without corrupting, and memories that bring them closer to God. For their part, the wicked live dissatisfied, always chasing the next strong emotion, without finding true fulfillment.

Now, what can we do to not be dazzled by this world?

First: Let us honestly evaluate what lamps we carry in our hearts. Let us ask ourselves: does God's approval or that of my fellow unbelievers illuminate my path?

Second: Let's cultivate friendships that love wisdom. Participating in Christian meetings, preaching together, and talking about hope strengthens that luminous circle.

Third: Let's feed our minds with the Word. Daily study and meditation allow the light of Jehovah to penetrate to the most intimate part of the being.

Finally: Let's share that light. Nothing strengthens our faith more than helping others see the sure path that leads to life.

Brethren, the lamp of the wicked may seem dazzling for a moment, but it is a luminary made of pride, selfishness, and hollow pleasures, destined to burn out. Let us not let its radiance dazzle us.

Let us cling to the intense light of the righteous. Let us shine with the joy that comes from obeying Jehovah and reflecting his qualities. Thus, even when the world is plunged into darkness, our path will remain illuminated and safe. And the most beautiful thing: let us guide others towards the same eternal light.
