As he sought Jehovah, the true God made it well for him (2 Chron. 26:5).

As a young man, King Uzziah was humble and learned to “fear the true God.” He lived 68 years, and Jehovah blessed him for most of his life. (2 Chronicles 26:1-4) Uzziah defeated many enemy nations and made sure that Jerusalem was well protected. (2 Chronicles 26:6-15) He must have been very happy about all he was accomplishing with Jehovah’s help. (Ecclesiastes 3:12, 13)

King Uzziah was used to giving orders. And perhaps that made him think he could do whatever he wanted. One day, he entered Jehovah’s temple and dared to burn incense on the altar, something kings were not allowed to do (2 Chron. 26:16-18). High Priest Azariah corrected him, and Uzziah was furious. Sadly, Uzziah ruined his record of faithful service, and Jehovah struck him with leprosy (2 Chron. 26:19-21). How different his life would have been if he had remained humble! w23.09 10 pars. 9, 10.

What does a humble person do?

When Uzziah became a powerful king, he forgot that all his accomplishments came from Jehovah. What is the lesson? We must not forget that the good things that happen in our lives and in our service to Jehovah come from him. Instead of boasting about our accomplishments, we should give Jehovah all the credit. (1 Cor. 4:7) b We need to be humble and admit that we are imperfect and need others to correct us. A brother who is over 60 years old wrote: “I have learned not to take myself too seriously. When someone corrects me for mistakes that reflect immaturity, I strive to improve and move forward.” If we are always humble and fear Jehovah, things will go well for us in life.—Prov. 22:4

When Josiah was young, what did he do to seek Jehovah? (2 Chronicles 34:1-3)

Make good choices like Josiah. Josiah began seeking Jehovah as a teenager. He wanted to know his God better and do His will. But being king wasn't easy for Josiah; at that time, most people worshipped false gods. So he had to be very courageous to stand up for the true religion. And he did very well! He wasn't even 20 years old when he began to rid the country of everything associated with the worship of false gods. (Read 2 Chronicles 34:1-3.)

What effect will dedicating yourself to Jehovah have on your life?

Even if you are very young, you can be like Josiah. How? By seeking Jehovah and learning more and more about his precious qualities. This will motivate you to dedicate yourself to him. And what effect will this dedication have on your life? Luke, who was baptized at 14, said: “From now on, serving Jehovah will be the first thing in my life, and I will strive to make him happy.” (Mark 12:30) Many blessings will come your way if you choose to do the same.
