Jehovah is the only one who can always help us (7 mins.) Discussion with the audience.
Read Psalm 55:22. Then discuss the following situations with those present.
In each case, write one way we show that we trust in Jehovah and one way he helps us.
We lose our jobs or we struggle to support our families.
When someone loses their job, the first thing that arises is anxiety, and the question arises: “What now?” In such cases, trusting in Jehovah means doing what is necessary, for example, looking for employment and adjusting expenses, but without allowing money to control our emotional and spiritual stability.
Hebrews 13:5 says that Jehovah will not abandon us. That promise gives us peace of mind and allows us to act calmly, not in despair, because we know we are not alone. A very practical way to cast our burdens is to talk to Jehovah in detail: what we owe, what worries us, and the solution we cannot see. That demonstrates real confidence that Jehovah will not abandon us.
Psalm 55:22 says that He will sustain you. Sometimes the solution doesn't appear immediately, but Jehovah sustains us internally, takes away our exhaustion, and gives us strength to keep trying. We demonstrate trust when, even in times of trouble, we remain steadfast. We don't look for shortcuts or things that compromise our conscience. That shows that we believe Jehovah sustains us.
And how does Jehovah help us? He gives us inner peace, because we know we are doing the right thing. That peace, when there is financial need, is a tremendous help, because it allows us to see the solution more clearly instead of letting the pressure overwhelm us.
Trusting in Jehovah also means not isolating ourselves. Sometimes, out of shame, we shut ourselves away, but Jehovah can help us through the congregation. We can ask for counsel, accept encouragement, or even practical help if needed. This is not a sign of weakness, but rather an acknowledgment that Jehovah cares for his people. Often, that help arrives precisely when we need it most.
Hebrews 13:6 doesn't say there won't be problems, but rather that we won't live dominated by fear; instead, we can confidently say, “Jehovah is my helper.” Trusting in Jehovah means saying to him, “I put this in your hands, and I will do my part.” And he helps us by giving us mental clarity and strength to maintain emotional and spiritual balance.
The authorities are placing restrictions on our work.
When authorities impose restrictions, it is easy to feel intimidated. But Hebrews 13:6 reminds us: “What can man do to me?” Trusting in Jehovah means not letting fear paralyze us, but continuing to worship him with prudence. Jehovah gives us courage and emotional stability and reminds us that no opposition can thwart his purpose.
One way we demonstrate our trust in Jehovah is to maintain unity and follow the direction he provides through his organization. Instead of acting individually, we trust in Jehovah by acting in an orderly fashion, and this gives us confidence and peace of mind. Jehovah blesses unity. Psalm 55:22 says that he will not allow the righteous to fall, and one way we might fall would be to become divided or discouraged.
Trusting in Jehovah in these situations means adapting without losing zeal: perhaps by giving more informal witnesses, making more return visits, writing letters, or preaching discreetly. It's not about slowing down, but about being prudent. Jehovah sustains us to keep going and often opens doors we didn't expect. The work continues, even if we have to change our approach.
When the atmosphere is tense, it is vital to keep feeding ourselves spiritually. We demonstrate confidence when we continue to attend meetings and maintain our spiritual routine. Jehovah helps us by giving us inner peace and security, because true security does not depend on circumstances, but on knowing that he is with us and will not abandon us, as Hebrews 13:5 says.
Trusting in Jehovah also means not responding with anger or pride; it means maintaining respect, calmness, and a good testimony. This shows that Jehovah is guiding us. Jehovah sustains us so that we do not react badly, so that we do not say things we might later regret, and so that we maintain a good conscience under pressure.
We have serious health problems.
When we face a serious illness, we feel vulnerable and afraid. One way to trust in Jehovah is to do what we can to improve our health, but not to carry the burden alone. Psalm 55:22 says: “Throw your burden on Jehovah.” We can do this by sincere prayer. In that way, Jehovah gives us strength to endure each day.
Often, health problems limit us and make us feel useless. Trusting in Jehovah means remembering that our worth does not depend on what we can do now. Hebrews 13:5 assures us that Jehovah will not abandon us; he provides us with peace and uses the congregation to support us with encouragement, companionship, and love.
When we feel weak, we demonstrate our trust in Jehovah by making decisions with a clear conscience and seeking mature counsel. Jehovah helps us by giving us serenity and confidence. Hebrews 13:6 says that we can be filled with confidence. That inner peace is a tremendous help when we face serious health problems.
In times of illness, there are days when we can't cope and we feel discouraged. Trusting in Jehovah means being reasonable and maintaining a suitable spiritual routine, however small: a prayer, reading a scripture, or listening to a meeting. Jehovah helps us by sustaining us so that the righteous do not fall. Even with the little we can give according to our circumstances, he keeps us firm.
Trusting in Jehovah means telling him how we feel. We can confidently say, “I’m afraid.” There’s no need to pretend to be strong. Jehovah helps us like a father: he gives us peace that doesn’t depend on the diagnosis, he sustains us mentally, and he enables us to continue having hope. That help is something no one else can provide in those circumstances.
We suffer a tragedy, such as a natural disaster or the death of a loved one.
When we experience tragedy, the pain is so great that words or phrases seem to offer no help. Psalm 55:22 tells us: “Cast your burden on Jehovah,” and one way to do this is to weep, pray, and tell Jehovah exactly how we feel. In this way, he sustains us when we are at our weakest and gives us the peace to keep going despite our circumstances.
During a tragedy or the loss of a loved one, sometimes the worst thing is the emptiness and loneliness. But in Hebrews 13:5, Jehovah tells us: “I will never leave you.” Trusting in Jehovah means clinging to that promise, even when we don’t understand why things are happening. Jehovah helps us by giving us real companionship through his spirit, the Bible, and the love of our brothers and sisters. He doesn’t take away our pain, but he sustains us and gives us a peace that is beyond anything any human can understand.
After a tragedy, fear of the future intensifies, and the question arises: “How will I live now?” Hebrews 13:6 answers: “Jehovah is my helper. I will not be afraid.” Trusting means clinging to that truth and not letting fear paralyze us. Jehovah helps us by giving us the courage to deal with the immediate situation, one step at a time, without giving up.
Trusting in Jehovah also means not isolating ourselves. Suffering may tempt us to distance ourselves from others, but Jehovah often sustains us through the congregation. Accepting a visit, a call, or a hug is allowing Jehovah to sustain us. Psalm 55:22 promises that he will not let the righteous fall, and he often does so through others.
Trusting in Jehovah also means living one day at a time. In times of tragedy, dwelling too much on the future can overwhelm us. But if we do the basics today—say a prayer, read a scripture, or attend a meeting—we are already casting our burden on Jehovah, and he helps us by sustaining us and giving us the strength we need for today and tomorrow.
