Let's start conversations (4 mins.) HOUSE TO HOUSE. In the conversation, you mention that Jesus is the Son of God. The person tells you that they disagree (lmd lesson 3 point 4).
Setting: During house-to-house witnessing, the publisher talks with a neighbor about the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. When asked who Jesus thinks he was, the neighbor says he considers him to be God himself. The publisher listens respectfully and, instead of contradicting him, uses Philippians 2:5, 6 to help him reflect on Jesus’ humility and his relationship with the Father.
Publisher: Hello, good afternoon. My name is [name]. I'm visiting some neighbors to share a Bible reflection. Today I'd like to talk to you about someone who made a great sacrifice for us: Jesus Christ. What do you admire most about Jesus?
Assistant: Well, I admire that he gave his life for us and that he always helped people.
Publisher: How beautiful! Jesus certainly demonstrated extraordinary love. Thanks to his sacrifice, we have the hope of living in a world without suffering. But there's something I'd like to ask you: who do you think Jesus really was?
Assistant: For me, Jesus is God himself. I believe that the Almighty came to Earth in human form to suffer and die for us.
Publisher: I understand. And I appreciate you sharing your thoughts with me. It's clear you have a deep respect and affection for Jesus. Many people share that belief. But you know, the Bible helps us understand better who Jesus was and what his relationship was with his Father.
Assistant: What does he mean?
Publisher: Look, there's a passage I find very interesting. It's in Philippians 2:5, 6. May I read it to you?
Assistant: Sure, go ahead.
Publisher: It says: “Have this same attitude of mind that Christ Jesus had, who, although he existed in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped.”
What strikes you about these words?
Assistant: Well, it says that Jesus existed in the form of God, but also that he did not try to be equal to God.
Publisher: Exactly! You've noticed a very important detail. This text allows us to reflect on the humility of Jesus. Although he held a very high position, he never wanted to put himself above his Father or take his place. On the contrary, he was always obedient to him.
Assistant: I'd never thought about that detail. But I have a question: if Jesus existed in the form of God, what exactly does that expression mean?
Publisher: That's an excellent question. And I'm glad you're interested in understanding what the Bible says. Indeed, there are other texts that help us better understand that expression and the very special relationship that existed between Jesus and his Father.
Assistant: I would like to meet them, because I have always believed that Jesus and God are the same person.
Publisher: That sounds great. How about we talk about it for a few minutes another day? We could analyze those texts and let the Bible itself help us find the answer.
Assistant: Yes, I'd like that. When could it happen?
Publisher: Is Wednesday afternoon okay with you?
Assistant: Perfect. I'm usually home at that time.
Publisher: Excellent. Then, we'll continue our conversation on Wednesday. Thank you so much for your time. Have a lovely afternoon.
